  1. FYI CharityVest now delivers funds via PayPal instead of the mail, assuming the charity is registered with PayPal. More details at https://www.charityvest.org/blog/charityvest-implements-paypal-grant-payments-to-enable-electronic-payments-to-charities
  2. Thank you! I had actually already started migrating my nameservers to those controlled by my domain registrar, so I guess I'm controlling my own DNS for now. I've gotten my .htaccess file set up again (had to remove "Options -Indexes") and updated it so URL forwarding all does what I expect (I think lol). Also I do not see an IPV6 / AAAA server IP in my Plesk page, but I found and used 2001:470:1:1ee::2009 from https://www.helionet.org/index/topic/54610-solved-change-domain-name/ Directory listing is not disabled as expected by default by Plesk, but Krydos is already aware of it and gives a temporary workaround in https://www.helionet.org/index/topic/54409-solved-issues-andor-questions-after-migration-to-plesk/
  3. Do Heliohost admins have a preference? My aliased domain is still showing the old wrong DNS, too, after my migration to Plesk a week ago. I don't mind setting up Cloudflare and doing the migration myself per your message above. But I've found no official documentation about using an external DNS, which suggests to me that the official preference is for users to use Heliohost's nameservers. https://wiki.helionet.org/hosting/signing-up#i-have-chosen-to-use-a-domain-other-than-.heliohost.org https://wiki.helionet.org/management/parked-addon-and-sub-domains#how-can-i-create-an-addon-domain
  4. It appears you can now register as a charity at GoFundMe to accept donations year-round https://www.gofundme.com/c/charity-fundraising I'll still do my donations via PayPal to avoid the fees, but more services almost certainly means more donors who couldn't otherwise be bothered to make an account on yet another site.
  5. You can donate with zero fees with PayPal and Facebook. I just tested a $1 minimum donation on PayPal and $5 minimum on Facebook, and it appears they even covered the credit card processing fees. GoFundMe has large fees from what I see. On a $5 donation, 2.2% + $0.30 = $0.41, which is over 8% of the donation going to fees. https://www.gofundme.com/c/pricing Visit Heliohost's PayPal Giving Fund page at https://www.paypal.com/fundraiser/charity/2598664. From the Facebook mobile app, there is also a fee-free donate button on Heliohost's page. I don't see it on the browser website for whatever reason. Maybe Meta Pay is only an app feature and not on web https://www.facebook.com/HelioHost.org? It may also be limited to certain countries, idk. Also when I was making the donation, a footnote said there are no fees "for now", implying Factbook will start charging fees at some point.
  6. PayPal Giving Fund page looks active at https://www.paypal.com/fundraiser/charity/2598664. Minimum donation is $1. Facebook is also showing me a fee-free donate button from the Heliohost Facebook page on mobile app. I don't see it on the browser website for whatever reason. Maybe Meta Pay is only an app feature and not on web https://www.facebook.com/HelioHost.org. Minimum donation is $5. Charityvest is another option I found for fee-free donations, although only US citizens can use it and there is a $20 minimum. I am considering making a donation from Charityvest. Looks like they'd send you a check in the mail https://guide.charityvest.org/for-charities/overview, to 110 7 Th Ave S, Kirkland, WA 98033 per your IRS records (and may support ACH direct deposit in the future). Their giving page is https://charityvest.org/charity/helio-networks-d5b1f0df-8759-41c4-91b3-e9e75099579d
  7. Looks like this change is active. However, do you need to update your regular Donate button links to instead go to your PayPal Giving Fund page? https://www.paypal.com/us/cshelp/article/what-is-the-difference-between-paypal-donations-and-paypal-giving-fund-donations-help222 says "[For] donation buttons,... the money] is subject to PayPal’s processing fees. Charities enrolled in PayPal Giving Fund can direct donors to their PayPal Giving Fund donation page or pages... PayPal Giving Fund doesn’t charge charities or donors any fees." The forum donate button goes to https://paypal.me/heliohost which looks like it's subject to fees. The main website donate button goes to https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=33M9CSPP5YPXS, which looks like some sort of campaign associated with the giving fund so may avoid fees? When I search from PayPal's website directly, it's very clearly a Giving Fund page that would avoid fees https://www.paypal.com/fundraiser/charity/2598664
  8. Cool, that must have been it. I didn't use spaces, but did use backslash and forward slash characters (/ and \). After removing them, I'm now able to log in from the main heliohost.org page. Thanks for all the help!
  9. I still can't log in from https://www.heliohost.org, but https://tommy.heliohost.org:2083/ is fine for me to use instead.
  10. Domain: ukanuk.heliohost.org Username: ukanuk2 Server: Tommy (have been on Stevie and Ricky in the past) Hello, I am unable to log in or reset my password using the the main login in the top right of https://www.heliohost.org/. I requested a password reset, received the reset email and clicked the link to reset my password. But when I click "Submit" on the "Set New Password" webpage at https://www.heliohost.org/reset/password/, I get this message: Error Uh oh, there was an error changing your password. The admins have already been notified of the problem, but if you would like us to manually change your password for you please contact support. You could also try reseting your password again. Note there's a typo, it should be "resetting" not "reseting", but the important part is that I'm locked out. I suspect this is caused because I reset my password yesterday from within cpanel. I forget which link exactly I clicked to change the password, but afterwards I got an email from cpanel@ukanuk.heliohost.org saying my password had been changed, and this makes me think I changed some local software password without changing the main password in heliohost's system. Email from cpanel@ukanuk.heliohost.org: You have successfully updated your password for the following services: ftpmailMySQLpostgresqlsystemIf you initiated this change, disregard this email. If you did not initiate this change, contact your system administrator.

    Tommy Upgraded

Whoa, just received an email from Heliohost support that I was migrated back to Tommy (I had been temporarily on Ricky during the shutdown), and WOW the pages seem to load really fast!!! Thank you again for all the hard work and outstanding service!

    Backups Available

May an administrator please manually send me the backup from my Tommy account, which had username "ukanuk"? As sohamb03 noted on my migration to Ricky thread, the email was released from Tommy when I went to Ricky so that's why https://www.heliohost.org/backup doesn't work for me.
  13. I believe that's the only domain I have... if there's others, I've forgotten about them from years of non-use. My account's activated on Ricky now, thanks! Next is just waiting for the backup to be available, I'm checking at https://www.heliohost.org/backup/ with my old username and email but I know HelioHost said in one of the other forums it could take until September for everything to be available and back to normal. Thankfully I have a mostly-up-to-date backup on my personal local storage.
  14. I just found another name for this type of bank-to-bank payment is ACH (Automated Clearing House). One payment processor supporting this is Wave, and while they do have just 1% fees for ACH transactions, it also has a $1 minimum fee. So basically unless someone is donating over $68 it would still be more expensive than Skrill. Just wanted to note this in the hopes that someone can use the information in the future. I keep hoping more payment processors will start offering this feature.
  15. This is what I got in the email confirmation when I made the donation: Official donation receipt Dear XXXXXXX, Thanks for your generous donation to PayPal Giving Fund. You have selected Helio Networks as your chosen charity. PayPal Giving Fund, a public charity (Federal Tax ID: 45-0931286), in partnership with PayPal, processes your donation so it can be granted to your chosen charity. Your donation summary: Benefiting charity: Helio Networks Program: GoFundMe Certified Charity Campaigns Transaction ID: 5T1022448U3568200 Date: Jan 15, 2018 19:42:03 PST
  16. Hi, may you please release my Tommy email, invite me to Ricky, and clean up my domains? Thank you guys so much for all your hard work and volunteering, and for being extremely polite and professional throughout the forums in this rough period. 17. Here's a transcript of my chat with Danielle from Host Merchant Services: Danielle: Hello how may I assist you? Me: I'm looking for someone who can help a small online non-profit (registered 501c3) accept EFT and minimize transaction costs. Monthly donations are less than $1000/month, and most of those will come via PayPal, Bitcoin, or other more common venues. Is Host Merchant Services a good fit to add EFT support for them? (Note, I'm only a customer for them, not part of their organization. I want to donate to them and get more of my money to them than the 2.2% fee charged by PayPal) Danielle: We have several solutions that allow a non-profit to take payments online. If they have their 501©3 paperwork than they will get the discounted rates that are offered from the card associations. Me: Do you support EFT? Danielle: We do Me: That's obviously MUCH cheaper than card transaction fees Danielle: Correct. Me: Would it be economical for them to start accepting EFT through you (and keep their PayPal option for other donors who won't want to switch), even if you're processing less than $10/month for them? This is of course a very low-priority venture for you I'm sure, but I do appreciate your time! Danielle: There is no such thing as low priority. We are always happy to speak with every charity and find the best way for them to accept donations. We would be more than happy to speak with them and do an analysis to see what would work best for them. Me: Thank you so much for your time! I'll let them know about you, and hope you can find something together that lowers their fees! Danielle: Perfect! We look forward to hearing from them. Please feel free to have them email me: danielle@hostmerchantservices.com or call: 877-517-4678 opt 1. What type of non-profit is this? Me: https://www.heliohost.org, they offer free website hosting for anyone with no required ads or any other disadvantages that I've found! I've been using them for over 5 years and they've been really great! Danielle: Thank you for that information. I am glad that they provide you with such great service.
  18. Thank you for the "HelioHost Finances" email letting me know you're losing money, and the great graph illustrating where your money goes! I already donated in the past and have the maxed 2000MB storage, but I think a monthly donation of even $1/month would be more helpful to you guys than the random $5 donations from you sending an email. With that context, I have a two-pronged question: Can you add support for Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), to eliminate card transaction fees and send money directly from my bank account to Heliohost's bank account? If not, which of your existing options minimizes fees for you? PayPal takes a 2.2% fee for registered 501(c)(3) organizations, Skrill appears to take a 1.45% fee, and credit cards also have merchant fees, but I don't know which is the lowest fee for you. Cryptocurrency is another option of course, but I'm not sure what fees I'd end up paying to convert my USD to BTC, Aeon, ETN, or XMR and then finally get it transferred to you. Most of the other 501(c)(3) organizations to which I donate accept EFT, minimizing fees. With family and friends, I use Zelle which has zero fees. I did some googling and I while I have no experience with accepting payments, I chatted with a rep (Danielle) from Host Merchant Services and it sounds like they might be able to help you at low cost. You can get a free quote from https://www.hostmerchantservices.com/lowest-rates. I have no affiliation with them so if you can find another provider with better fees, of course, you should use them instead. But if Host Merchant Services can lower your fees, I'd love to donate through them instead! Of course, accepting EFT sounds to me like it could be a big task especially considering how few donors you likely have, and if that's the case please let me know and I'll happily send you money using whatever other option is best for you. Thanks again for providing your wonderful service!
  19. I've updated the wiki now. You may want to delete the sentence I left about connecting to Stevie, since it's probably irrelevant moving forward.
  20. Thank you, that did it! Looks like the documentation I was following here and in cPanel → FTP Accounts → Special FTP Accounts → Configure FTP Client are out of date. I tried searching the forums for something like "Tommy FTP", as well, but didn't find that info.
  21. Am I unable to connect to my account via FTP (to upload files to public_html) because there's an error with Tommy, or is it more likely a network mis-configuration on my end? FWIW, I had no trouble several years ago, so I think it's a little more than just user error. Then again, that was connecting to Stevie, not Tommy, and from a completely different home network as well. Details of what I'm doing: Using FileZilla (v3.24.0 on Win10) with the imported configurations available through cPanel, I've attempted to connect to my account on Tommy with both SFTP and FTP, but am getting an error I do not know how to resolve. With SFTP: Status: Connecting to ftp.ukanuk.heliohost.org:1342... Status: Connected to ftp.ukanuk.heliohost.org Status: Retrieving directory listing... Command: pwd Response: Current directory is: "/home/ukanuk" Error: Failed to parse returned path. Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing With FTP: Status: Resolving address of ftp.ukanuk.heliohost.org Status: Connecting to 65.19.143.6:21... Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message... Status: Initializing TLS... Status: Verifying certificate... Status: TLS connection established. Status: Logged in Status: Retrieving directory listing... Command: PWD Response: 257 "/" is your current location Command: TYPE I Response: 200 TYPE is now 8-bit binary Command: PASV Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (65,19,143,6,162,142) Command: MLSD Error: Connection timed out after 20 seconds of inactivity Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing
  22. It doesn't matter that much, it can stay ukanuk. I like using "nuk" to register for sites, but there's plenty where it's already taken and I have to use something else. I just thought it strange because I used to have "nuk" as the username for both my hosting and forum accounts, and I had assumed I'd be able to have it that way again. Thanks again for all you're doing!
