  1. It appears to lack IRC. I started the installation before I realized that anyway, so I might aswell take a look.
  2. Was afraid that the helions that I put in the bank were lost. I guess they were.
  3. I'm trying out Pidgin. Not sure if I like it better than Trillian. Trillian had a hotkey system that I really liked, and the hotkey plug-in for Pidgin doesn't quite do the same impact on me. On trillian I had global hotkeys for focusing on IRC rooms and changing status.
  4. Not mine. ;-p I've just forgot my actual first langauge after cruising too much at the internet.
  5. I guess I'm using the preview feature alot because the forum I hang on the most have disabled their abused edit feature.
  6. Nice to hear something sensible. Many of those seeking alternative medicine have also bad experiences with conventional pharmaceutical medicine - this includes a fellow autistic in my area who have a very negative experience with the drug risperdal. She is now considering the very controversial use of chelation treatment marketted by DAN! It is mostly just parents with very young, newly diagnosed, kids that are considering such DAN! treatments - possibly motivated by emotions following the diagnosis, but as she is not patient with her abilities to read English it is not easy to get her informed - that might be why she, unlike most autistics in the english-speaking world, is considering chelation for herself.
  7. Man, your ideas on the karma system remind me of a site-fantasy I had about a politics centered online community. The community had different political parties that all had their rate on lots of stuff - who they support, what they support and who they give the most rating-power. I guess that would be complicated. From a newb I see that many of the members at this forum have a great mentality that helps maintain the site's purposes - which I think is really cool. I get the impression that the current interest system isn't really helping the site's cause, but ignore me if I appear ignorant.
  8. So as I've briefly said before, I've followed the autistic online community in the english speaking world, and am trying to see something similar happen here in Norway. What I want with this topic, is to hear from you your conceptions of autism. In Norway not many know anything about what autism is, but my impression is that it is much different in the english-speaking world. However, the quality of the information and the picture that is painted of autism in the public media never seem to please all parties. As a so called "high-functioning" autistic for instance, I'm not pleased if the one documentary a year on autism gives the impression that all autistics are non-verbal. In the english speaking world I've seen alot of autistics being annoyed at the great focus on parents and children, causing nitwits like Jenny McCarthy to think that there are no autistic adults. There are alot of topics related to autism that have generated alot of controversy. Including a couple of causation theories often related to vaccines. Most of the autistic community, and the so-called "Neurodiversity" community that I consider myself part of, tend to direct a huge amount scepticism at most autism causation theories. The neurodiversity blogging community have had alot of friendly business with the sceptic blogging community where autism has become a hot topic. I, and the majority of the neurodiversity community, do not believe that either the MMR vaccine or the thimerosal vaccine preservative can cause autism. This is also the consensus in the mainstream medical community. Many autism causation theories are however popular in alternative medicine, and a branch of alternative medicine which is very good at giving themselves a scientific look has gained alot of popularity among autism parents - In the world of autism it is just called "biomed", their leading organization would be Defeat Autism Now! (DAN!). While they certainly affect the media and gain support from alot of autism parents, I, as someone who has followed the autism debates for a long time, can no longer see them as a serious group, after observing what they really do. I put them in the same folder as many here probably would place creationists. ... but now over to you, what have you heard about autism? This would probably have started a flame war on certain autism boards, I hope that wont be the case here.
  9. I've been sticking to Trillian cuz it was the first one I saw had both MSN and IRC, but from what I hear here I might swap to Pidgin.
  10. I tried on nextBBS, I might stick with it for simplicity's sake. It might not be that user-friendly, when I changed Forum Language Index from "en" (English) to "no" (Norwegian) the whole forum crashed - including the interface where I changed that property. I had to go into the database to change it back to "en". I later made a plug-in for norwegian langauge though, which I've posted on nextBBS's board. Here's a screenshot of the admin CP: ... whaa.... you can't preview quick replies in IPB???? Oh wait, "More Options", not that intuitive. ;-)
  11. Thanks! I guess staying up to 1 AM was worth it, get to look at the cPanel before I trip tomorrow.
  12. I eat christians for breakfast. </jk> Many who call themselves christians where I live, but no one really cares what that's written in the bible... and there's no problem!
  13. Here's an wikipedia article - Comparison of Internet forum software I guess Helio only supports PHP with MySQL, so I click and get the list of known forum softwares with specific properties. The three forum softwares getting all checks to abilities is (wikipedia articles): Invision Power Board NextBBS vBulletin I found the first and the last names familiar, but not the middle one and checked it out - seems like the software has many things that I am unfamiliar with from my experience with MyBB, including a pretty chat-like shout box that's kinda annoying when you try to scroll down the page with a scroller mouse button. I shouted that I think there should a button that you click before you scroll that chatroom area.
  14. I am in awe of how strong the common culture among wikipedians to keep good quality to the articles is. It makes me trust wikipedia often, but I do see that eg criticism sections of articles on controversial organizations have been edited so that the criticism sound less valid, probably just to descredit the critics. I guess articles on any controversy might become unreliable. I don't mind articles on controversies that speak my mind though ;-p - like the thimerosal and MMR controversy articles.
  15. I got the 24 hour waiting period, seems like I have to wait some days as I'm off-net for some days on a trip with my family. Norway mountains.
  16. Cool. Still not entirely sure where I go though.
  17. Looked at this hosting service because the other free hosting services offering cPanel required the text to be in English, I was planning on a website in norwegian - expanding the autistic community (by and for autistics, parents-of-autistic dominated organizations tend to the wrong place to be for auties like me) that I have become familiar with in the english speaking world. I am a n00b, I bet the 45 minute FTP upload of the whole already unzipped Wordpress program to the pop-up ad infested hosting area http://autie.orgfree.com was not the right way to do it, and I bet that is the reason as to why my blog is so buggy. I hear that cPanel can install wordpress with a click, sounds better, no ads too if I happen to post 25 messages a month on this forum - I like it. At least I have become familiar with HTML, CSS and just begun figuring out JavaScript - at least so that it works for Firefox ;-p Ivar T
