  1. I haven't seen that ability to have your own nameservers...but maybe I haven't looked close enough. (Probably.) I'd check out hostgator.com and 1and1.com...1and1.com seems alot cheaper but hostgator might have better hardware.

  2. Does anyone know how websites achieve the "pop ups" where the content appears in the middle above everything, and the rest of the website is dimmed? It seems to be an implementation of CSS or Javascript (aka AJAX), but I can't figure out what they do...

    For example, http://www.newgrounds.com/ uses this when you try to view a video - http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/402467. Click on "Watch this Video," and you'll see that the new video pops up.

    Anyone know how to do this?

  3. karath I can't agree with you more. The kid has some many two word posts it's unbelievable. I haven't said anything for fear of back-seat modding, but there's a point where it's just ridiculous.

    Anyways, that's a really nice laptop you've got there. lolMicrosoftWorks. :o I want lightscribe...it sounds so cool, burning on disc designs. How thick is it? How heavy?

  4. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

    I use a php file (index.php) for the index of my site, and I've been trying to set up a custom 404 page. What I find, however (and I've seen this before too) is that when I go to a page that does not exist, it seems to just show my index page instead. To see this, go to http://www.mildlyhotpeppers.com/. And now go to http://www.mildlyhotpeppers.com/whateveryouwanthere. It still shows my index page. Then go to http://www.mildlyhotpeppers.com/madeupfolder/anything/. It still shows my index page. (In the last two, the index page gets destroyed, however, because the relative image and stylesheet links are not correct.)

    Does anyone have an idea why this happens?

  5. Djbob I have lost 750 helions so far trying to sign up. As I've said before, Mildlyhotpeppers and I are trying to make a site together, and we've decided to brand his videos as mildlyhotpeppers and not jaymaa. Thus, we need a new (sub)domain - I have tried signing up as "mildlyhotpeppers", and when I click sign up it tells me that the user does not exist and that it is the same as my control panel username. If I haven't signed up that account yet, how can it possibly exist!? I tried again later, thinking perhaps there was a temporary bug. That was not the case. And so I decided to try and get a free account. When trying to sign up for a free account, I saw that there was a character limit of 8. So I tried "mhp" - yet again, it did not work.

    So now I have lost 750 helions, and I have not created a new account. It would be amazing to be able to get 500 helions back and a standard posting package with the subdomain of mildlyhotpeppers.heliohost.org. I understand if you've been busy lately and unable to respond - just please help us as soon as possible. Thanks!

  6. For sure it is, and yeah do you know guys that the web hosting space is being finished rapidly as millions of pages are being hosted on internet everyday, we should try persuading people only to host websites which make sense and are good for people rather than hosting sites which are useless.

    ...sorry if I"m misunderstanding...but there is no way web hosting space will ever run out as long as new computers and servers can be made. Files on the Internet aren't uploaded to some massive, gigantic, huge server that everyone connects to... -_-

  7. A lot of what I want to say has been said already. You say you want welfare to be gone - if your life is flipped upside down and you end up in the streets, however, you won't be saying that anymore. As long as politicians are chosen by votes and those on welfare vote, there will be welfare.

    I want politicians to stop making laws and programs start getting rid of them!

    What is that supposed to achieve? Anarchy?

  8. Yes - I guess I'll make another, then? Are forum based posting accounts immediately activated?

    Erm...djbob...I just bought the hosting plan with 250 helions, entered "mildlyhotpeppers", clicked Sign Up! (not renew)...and it said something about an error, how it could not find my username, and something else that I now forget. (But it sounded like an error that would pop up if I had clicked renew and the username didn't exist. I am sure I clicked Sign Up though.) My item is gone (along with the helions I spent)...help?

  9. I really need help on this one...I have a 2 folders now on my server that I cannot delete, whether I use an FTP client or the file manager from the control panel. I click delete, and it seems to have worked, and then it just appears again. For the record, one folder is empty while the other has two files. A Google search says to CHMOD them, but when I try to do so through Dreamweaver, Filezilla, or the online manager it won't work. In Filezilla:

    Command:    SITE CHMOD 777 asdf
    Response:  550 Could not change perms on asdf: Operation not permitted

    (The folder name is now asdf out of frustration.)

    Please help!

    //edit

    If it's any help, I'm working on a PHP script that uploads a video and a thumbnail while inserting values into a database. It uses the mkdir(); function to create the new directory, and the new directories that it is creating cannot be deleted.

    //edit again

    So far I've managed to delete the files created by the PHP script using another PHP script with the rmdir(); and unlink(); commands. The other folder, however, I cannot.

    Warning: rmdir(hightekkers_old) [function.rmdir]: Permission denied in /home/jaymaa/public_html/remove.php on line 3

  10. Thats about it. It is a horrible os. Get this. 1 Account. There is no such thing as an Admin account (visible in xp by pressing F8 during boot) So, the first account created is considered the Admin Account. Everytime you go to run a non microsoft program, it halts all ops. of the computer and displays a dialog asking you if it is ok to run the program, that only and admininstrator can run such programs. Why in the world, if there is one account which is the admin by default would windows ask me if i am an administrator on that computer. I just cant stand it period.

    You can change that. Just sayin'.

    SP1 is coming out...eventually...

    I have to say that, I'm not a Microsoft fan boy, but everything said has not been applying to me. I have 2GB of ram, and I barely use more than 1GB with Photoshop, Flash, and Firefox open. I can play every game, including Age of Empires II, which I'm pretty sure is pretty old. I agree with Kyougi, and most things said here are not from experience but just from the common anti-vista argument. People talk about bugs, but I doubt most can't even name them - I'm not saying there aren't bugs, though.

    I'm done.

  11. Yeah I was thinking of doing that but I think there's something against multiple accounts...is there? And plus it'll be a pain to have to upload everything again, not to mention waiting for the account to be approved in the first place. >< So I'm hoping djbob will use his mighty administrator powers and work his magic. Please?
