  1. Thank you again for your timely reply Wizard! By now you're very aware that I'm really a babe in the woods with website vernacular and process. So... would it be EASY for you to explain the sylink option (hopefullly step by step)? If not, I'll take your first suggestion. Further... how do I "move" the contents of the "richardgvr" folder to the "greenvalleyrecording.com" folder? TIA Richard
  2. Hi, I'm sorry... I feel so dense. I would appreciate your help. I've read the FAQs and CAQs but can't quite figure out what I'm doing incorrectly. My Heliohost domain name is greenvalleyrecording.heliohost.org and my user name is richard I am able to see my website online at http://greenvalleyrecording.heliohost.org/richardgvr/ I own www.greenvalleyrecording.com and have tried to redirect that address to the heliohost site on the domain control page at godaddy.com, where I registered the url. With GoDaddy I have listed http://greenvalleyrecording.heliohost.org/richardgvr/ as the site location where I'd like the redirect, and also changed the nameservers to ns1.heliohost.org and ns2.heliohost.org. But typing www.greenvalleyrecording.com comes up in a search engine... please tell me what I'm doing incorrectly. Thank you. Richard
  3. You have to be way more patient... and be aware that the server resets just after midnight west coast time (whatever they call their time zone). So apply just after midnight California time. I applied on the 11th and was just activated on the 17th... Read through the FAQ and CAQ as well... you'll learn a lot.
  4. UPDATE: I can now access my cpanel. Now, off to uploading the site. Thanks!!!
  5. I'm not using Hotmail, just a *.net address... so... should I have received an e-mail confirming my account has been created and I'm in the que? I will be patient and not "bug" you if I know I haven't messed up somewhere and am waiting unnecessarily. domain: greenvalleyrecording.heliios.org user: Richard Thank you. EDIT: Whoa, hold the horses... I'm cued... I just checked the site and it says I"m cueed (or however the heck you spell that <LOL>) I've not been successful in logging into my cpanel however... will keep trying.
  6. Hello, I applied for an account over 5 days ago and not only can't access my cpanel, but also have not received a confirmation e-mail. Not sure if I should receive confirmation, but I believe I've seen references to such in other forum discussions. Please advise: am I in the que? Domain name: greenvalleyrecording.helios.org User name: Richard Thank you.
  7. That did it... I'm IN! Thanks again Baraeris
  8. Hello, For three days I've been trying to create an account. I repeatedly get this message: We're sorry, but the daily signup limit has been exceeded. Please try again tomorrow. I've tried at many different times during the day; from very late at night to very early in the morning and still can't find a time when the limit hasn't been exceeded. Should I keep trying or is there some (hopefully temporary) issue with signups? Thank you.
  9. Yes. Thanks yet again Wizard. I'm off to "create"!
  10. Oh, no... I started with www. And that's a nice tip on the parked domain. So, even though I've paid for a domain name (URL I guess it's also called) for the next 7 years, can I also park it with your free parking service and people will be able to access it though the parked name? Thanks again Wizard. You deserve the moniker. Let's see if I can explain this well enough... parked domains is like providing your website with another name (url) to go by. If I have wizard.heliohost.org, domain1.com, and domain2.com, I can point domain1.com and domain2.com at wizard.heliohost.org using nameservers, and then add the two domains as parked domains in cPanel. Then whenever I visit domain1.com or domain2.com, it'll be the same as visiting wizard.heliohost.org. The only difference is that the url bar will display domain1.com/domain2.com. In other words, whenever you edit the files in your hosting account, both your heliohost subdomain and your domain will see the changes because they're essentially pointing to the same place--your hosting account. EDIT to your EDIT: your domain registrar and your hosting account are two different things. You're not registering your domain name again by adding it as a parked domain here. With your registrar, you're pointing your domain toward our server. With your hosting account, you're telling our server to recognize it's being pointed at through that domain. You need both in order to visit your website and have it display the stuff you put in your heliohost hosting account. Thanks again Wizard for your detailed explanation. I appreciate the time you've taken to answer my newbie questions. Okay Wizard, I'm still a little confused... and again I apologize; I must seem like an idiot to you. Let me make this so a simpleton like me can understand. I already own a domain that we'll call "www.mysite.com". If I create an account with helios and name it "mysite.helios.org", then go to my control panel and "Park" "www.mysite.com", then go to my registrar of "www.mysite.com" and point to the ns1.heliohost.org and ns2.heliohost.org nameservers, everything should be in order. Do I have this correct? Thanks in advance for your patience.

  13. I am trying to create an account, and one of the questions is "Desired Domain". I already have a registered dot com address and when I put that in the "Desired Domain" box and try to finalize the account creation, I get an error message indicating that my choice is not a valid address. So, my question is, must I use a heliohost address, then point my existing domain name to that address? Sorry... I'm really a novice with this stuff and truly appreciate your help.
  14. Thank you Wizard. I will create an account immediately.
  15. Hello, I am considering moving my (already created in MS FrontPage) website to your server. I have three questions. 1. I've read through the extensive information in your forums and CAQ and FAQ, and am still not certain as to whether you would put ads on my website if I were to move it here. Would ads be placed on my site? 2. I also am far from being a web design professional, and would use the Front Page Extensions for posting... I believe I understand that I could simply log into my heliohost account and upload from FrontPage... correct? 3. And lastly, I would need to log in to my domain registrar and point my (already registered) domain name to your domain servers using the ns1.heliohost.org or ns2.heliohost.org nameservers. I think I understand that. If I've got it wrong, please advise. Thank you very much for this service...
