stefanscottalexx Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 I guess you already know this but... cPanel seems to have been down most of the day - I've been checking periodically. I can access my site (as a visitor) but can't login using cPanel (as an administrator). I understand that disk space is getting low on 'Stevie' so this is probably why cPanel has been disabled. The HelioHost staff seems very talented and well-informed, so I hope you manage to get the additional hardware resources you need to support the excellent human resources you have on this site.
Wizard Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Have you logged in to cpanel before? Make sure you type in your username in all lowercase. It won't let you log in otherwise.
Ashoat Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 cPanel seems to be working OK for me, but we did have a spot of downtime this morning. I'll check cPanel to see if its up during the day tomorrow.
stefanscottalexx Posted November 14, 2008 Author Posted November 14, 2008 (edited) cPanel seems to be working OK for me, but we did have a spot of downtime this morning. I'll check cPanel to see if its up during the day tomorrow. Working fine for me now - thanks djbob and Wizard. Actually I think I wasn't accessing it properly before. Although cPanel may have been down for a while earlier today as djbob mentioned, I now see that I probably wasn't accessing it properly most of time - since I forgot that my laptop here at home is behind a firewall. It all gradually dawned on me once I noticed that that being able or unable to access cPanel seemed to depend on which of two URL variants I enter in my browser: (1) If I went to: http://mysubdomain.co.cc/cpanel Then my browser would go to another screen which says "Detecting your internet connection..." and displaying two buttons: > "If you are not behind a firewall that blocks port 2082 - Enter Here" > "If you are behind a firewall and can not connect to port 2082 - Enter Here" I'm on a laptop at home, and I assumed I wasn't behind a firewall that blocked port 2082, so I was always clicking the "no firewall" button (which worked fine all day yesterday. However, today clicking on the "no firewall" button started giving me a error "Problem loading page - Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at stevie.heliohost.org:2082" - so I assumed cPanel wasn't working. Hmm... (2) Later I noticed there were other methods where I could access cPanel, even when the above method didn't work: ( a ) I noticed I could get in if I accidentally got distracted and didn't click either button on the above screen. After about 30 seconds cPanel appeared. Then I realized: duh, I am behind a firewall, and it's probably blocking Port 2082! I'm using PC-Cillin on my laptop here at home, and it includes a firewall of course. I just checked my current firewall settings, and Port 2082 as being enabled or disabled for outgoing connections - so it's probably disabled by default, so I couldn't get in! ( b ) I noticed I could get in if I went to: http://cpanel.mysubdomain.co.cc/fro...d/x3/index.html (an address stored in my browser's URL field dropdown) or http://cpanel.mysubdomain.co.cc (the shorter form of the above address) ( c ) So putting all the above together, I realized that I should also be able to get in if I went to: http://mysubdomain.co.cc/cpanel and clicked on the button: > "If you are behind a firewall and can not connect to port 2082 - Enter Here" and of course, this time it worked. Eureka. I'm going ahead and posting this long-winded explanation here on the off-chance it might help some other person who also doesn't realize they're behind a firewall. :-) Edited November 14, 2008 by stefanscottalexx
