condell
If I request a SSL setup at $12/yr, what will this actually mean? (I read the wiki item on this, already) Q1. Is the entire webhosting for all the domains on my Heliohost account moved to an SSL service, or just the nominated domain? Q2. If the entire Heliohost account is moved does that mean all my domains have to use https:// ? Q3. I'm looking into this because I'm considering using Oxwall social network program from Softaliscious on Heliohost. I'm assuming that one really should use SSL for that, yes? Thanks Murray
Ice IT Support
The domain your certificate protects depends on the certificate you buy. A typical certificate only protects one domain (or subdomain). When you setup SSL for a domain, you have the option to use http:// or https://. Your domain is not automatically redirected to https://, so you will have to do that manually. Yes, you should definitely use SSL for a social media site.
condell
Thanks for your quick response to my first post!. I'll arrange a domain, then request an SSL per the Wiki instructions. Murray
condell
Further question. When a domain is placed under a SSL on another server, does it gets its own 500Mb capacity, or is it all still rolled into the one amount for all domains under my name? Ice IT Support
Each account gets a total of 500MB to share across all domains. We have found that amount to be suitable for most websites. Sites that host videos, images, or other large files are encouraged to utilize free services such as Dropbox or YouTube. Also, just as a reminder, users are only allowed to have one account. It is possible to have one account per server (for example, your primary site on Stevie, and experimental projects using Ruby on Rails, Java, or ASP on Johnny). However, you must post in Customer Service requesting permission for dual-account priviledges stating your reason for two accounts.
condell
Oh! That's useful. I could experiment on Johnny, and run things properly on Stevie. I'll consider that. Is the dual-account still a total of 500Mb, or 500 and a bit of memory for Johnny as well?
Ice IT Support
It's 500MB per account, so 500MB on your Stevie account and 500MB on your Johnny account.
condell
Would the SSL be setup on Johnny or Stevie?
Ice IT Support
It would be setup on the account you specify. It can be setup on either server.
