Igrec Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 Could you please advise me whether accessing http://stevie.helioh...org:2082/login/ is not sufficient to keep the suspension counter renewed? (This forum's post suggests that it is.) I have last logged in just a week ago but today's email states that the last log-in was 30 days ago. Is there any way to check the date of the last log-in or account activity? I am happy to help developing a user script for the common benefit. Many thanks for your time.
Sove Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 The recommended way to login is through Heliohost's website, there are many ways to login that don't count to your logins, that url has to be one of those.

Thank you. But could I check the date of the last account activity-counter reset? Is it the date of ~/.lastlogin? Also, my understanding is that the form on www.heliohost.org/home just POSTs the access data to http://stevie.heliohost.org:2082/login/. Why using the latter address directly fails to update the counter? A post last year As long as you see "index.phpcp" in the navigation bar of your browser, your login has been logged. All three methods you mentioned will work fine.states that this should work fine. Has it been changed recently? UPDATE: I think, I have figured out the main reason for non-registered log-ins. Before the log-in form appears on http://stevie.heliohost.org:2082/frontend/x3/index.phpcp, a Basic HTTP Authentication request window appears that bypasses the conventional POST via /login/ script. I wonder if it is possible to disable this method and thus to avoid a missing log-in counter reset? To everyone, the sign of a registered log-in is a parameter ?post_login= after index.phpcp in the browser address field. If I am right, it is worth putting into the forum's FAQ. Still, any advice on checking the current account (log-in counter) status would be highly appreciated.
Shinryuu Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 Your last login was today so you apparently already renewed your account. The three preferred, and easiest, ways to login and not think about having your login counted are: http://cpanel.julis.heliohost.org/ , http://julis.heliohost.org/cpanel/ and as Sove mentioned, the login at http://heliohost.org is the most reliable. I don't get why you want to be cute and send request information manually, or even figure out how it's processed by the server, just use the standard login URLs we give you and make use of the service. As for where the last login date is stored, it is overwritten every time you log in and there's no way for a basic user to access it if that's what you meant by: I am happy to help developing a user script for the common benefit. There's a reason for inactivity suspensions, so don't try it.

I used the second URL you provided and got suspended. The problem is that cPanel is opened in my browser by default and it requests the APACHE authorisation first when reloaded. I do not want to do anything unconventional, just being able to see in cpanel or in the home directory the last counted login. It certainly saves both your and user's time. Perhaps, it is too difficult to implement or the Heliohost staff is short of time. If it is a relatively straightforward PHP method, I am happy to contribute a script to your collection of http://www.heliohost.org/scripts/.
Shinryuu Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 It's a trivial script, but it's more of a gimmick than a functional script. If more people reply and think it'd be nice to know what cpanel sees as your last login we'll do it, but there's other more purposeful scripts in the works right now.
craigis Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 I thought the renew of the last login date came from the iFrame on the cPanel index page which points to the url http://www.heliohost.org/scripts/renew.php?fromcpanel=1&username=yourusername as this iFrame is still in the background of the cPanel page. As there the iFrame is used should it not matter where a login was sourced from as long as they all land on the same page? In this case the cPanel index page. Or are there other factors that affect this?
mellofellow Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 (edited) Somewhat related: I have had similar problems with suspension when it was not merited according to the above -and even had a reinstatement courtesy of Shinryuu I believe! So my question is this: instead of bypassing any inactivity traps, is there a way to set up an automatic email reminder, maybe using cron or something? That would save everyone's time as well? Currently I have a reminder on my blackberry and use a google calendar, but is there a way to set up an aperiodic alarm, say at 25 days for example? I'm not sure if this is inline with the ToS, but it's just a thought. Okay, nevermind. Just realized this mechanism is already in place.Perhaps then a method to set when this email is sent, i.e. 25days vs. 30... Edited May 3, 2013 by mellofellow
