Guest xaav Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 "What is written on the front of the box is not found inside of the box. Somebody had a vision that somehow seems to be different from what the reality is of today." opportunity's words quoted above are true. I know much worse webhosts than HelioHost, it's not that bad, even some of the paid hosts are worse. HelioHost can be enough to do some tests if such script/configuration/whatever will work or not or even for some unimportant websites that are not critical to be online all the time... But no-one will convince me that this is a "professional-grade web hosting", such statement is simply untrue. Believe me: It's not like we want these things to occur. We would much rather everything run smoothly and not have any downtime at all. It just seems impossible to have 100% uptime. Every time we think we have everything fixed, some user finds some tiny security hole that they can use to slow down the entire server.
Ashoat Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 (edited) Re-opening this thread. opportunity is an asshole. But Piotr is right. We are dishonest and sound too much like marketers with our home page. I blame my 16-year-old (or however old I was) self for that. We should be honest. With HelioHost, you are getting free hosting. But you are losing out on stability, uptime, and support will be slower. We try our best to keep up but we aren't perfect. Until somebody comes along and gives us a grant to work on HelioHost full-time, our service will never be scalable enough to deal with the amount of users we have. We will never be able to offer everything we'd like to offer as part of our service. We shouldn't be advertising as if we're perfect. Especially considering that we are a non-profit. It's not like we have anything to gain by tricking people. Edited December 9, 2011 by Wizard nothing -> anything 1
xwinuser Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Thanks djbob for your honesty. It takes a big man (good man) to tell it like it is even when it's not a pretty picture. I get frustrated with the stability sometimes but I remind myself that you were honest from the beginning about Johnny and Stevie. I also really appreciate the effort and desire to provide a great service and for me that makes it a great service. Anyway, I have my site here and I do not plan on leaving anytime soon. Thanks!
