  1. Anush, I don't mean to ignore the original question, but why can't you simply move the file onto your own website? If its something that gets updated frequently, you could write a version-check type thing that can re-download the file from the source (ensuring authorized access at the same time) and then include it. Piotr is probably right, its very dangerous to be including files from another server.
  2. If you're looking for a cheap domain host, I would recommend netfirms.com they have a $6.99 /year sale right now. If that doesn't work out, the cheapest place I've found is godaddy.com, theirs is like $10 / year.
  3. Hi. I came to this site about a month or two ago, and was quite pleased with the services it offered, and began setting up my website here. A week went by, and all of a sudden I couldn't visit my site anymore. Helionet.org couldn't be reached, and heliohost.org was a hit-or-miss connect thing. So I began searching for a new host, thinking this was too good to have lasted. Now come today, I check back here again, and everything is back to normal. My site is running just fine (though it took nearly a minute to load), and heliohost.org and helionet.org are working like before. What happened? Am I the only one that seemed to experience website downtime? If not, how long were these sites down? I would really like to know these things before I start digging back into developing my site here.
  4. Hey, I like the new layout, and the message you have on the front. I did notice in the features drop-down that you have arrows to indicate sub-menus. You might make those brighter or somehow more noticeable, otherwise you don't really notice them until the sub-menu begins to show up. That's the suggestion I have so far. Looks great, though!
  5. I see. But unfortunately it doesn't seem to work. At least not the second time loading it. Perhaps we could be something simpler. I would be interested in knowing how to go about setting colors in an edit box, via java, whenever certain keys are pressed. Guess I haven't had time to research it lately.
  6. Yoyo, what are your access permissions on those files? The most common mode I use is 755. I don't fully understand how it works but it could be that. Can anyone else explain what all the modes mean?
  7. That HorizontalWay site looks quite interesting actually. I notice that things are merely placed into block, which can be clicked for further information - but alot is placed on the page as is. Perhaps website news could be made like this: have blocks for different stories, including the opening of the main story, and clicking on it will bring up the rest for you to view. Though it seems the horizontal layout is only so useful. I think it would be more useful for the blocks to be like cards, of some kind, and you could somehow shuffle them around until you see one that attracts your attention.
  8. I'm using IE 7.0, running Windows XP... I seem to have had a lot of browser issues with sites lately. I don't understand why so many sites refuse to work with the most recent version. But I dunno... The page starts to load fine and everything, but it will only get to displaying the contents on a standard edit box, and the whole browser hangs. Btw, does anyone know how complicated it is for a javascript app to set text colors in an editor box? I'm fairly unused to using javascript, so I'd like to learn what I need, if I undertake this sort of project.
  9. Hey, thanks I didn't notice this before. Unfortunately after trying the editor a second time, it locked up my browser and had to shut it down. Overall it looks nice, but there's apparently something wrong with it. Is the source for this open? I might attempt to fix the problem I'm having. If not I can surely look into building a new one.
  10. I don't remember what it was called, but I remember a racing game we got with a new computer, back when CD's were new and fantastic. The game had a dozen different videos, and played at least 2 or 3 between each race. The funny thing about the game was, even if you win the race it might still be game over. I started to think winning the game was more about 'TV ratings' in the game than beating your competition. But I don't know. Every once in a while our PC would hang on the videos because it got to be too much (PC videos was new then too). Edit: Oh yeah, I've seen stories about that Big Rigs game. Horrible stuff, of which I could do better in a week's worth of effort.
  11. My favorite language is a little-known one called Blitz3D. Its simple yet powerful enough to do a great deal of things. Its very straight-foreward so it doesn't take long before you can get things running. I've tried C,C++,C#,Java and a few others and it just doesn't have that same effect - it takes a lot of work to get something working. For online coding my favorite is PHP, of course I use of mix of PHP, HTML, mySQL, and sometimes Javascript too. I should use more CSS but its so tough finding decent info.
  12. I was reading the discussion on the favorite languages of different people, and the talk about PHP IDE's got me thinking about using a PHP IDE. The trouble is, I only develop directly on my site (which I imagine many others here do too), and there doesn't seem to be any decent web-based PHP IDE's out there. Would anyone here be interested in banning together and creating our own? I don't know that much about doing it all, but I'm sure it would be a useful project. I figure we could have a set of files for people to download & upload to their server, and then just log-in to their IDE via a webpage and edit any PHP files from there. The editor itself could probably be done in javascript / CSS (which I don't know a great deal about, personally). Would it be a project worth undertaking?
