  1. Hi Members, I would kindly like to know if Heliohost supports JavaScript. I coded an animation but the output does not work. The url I'm using ends in ... index.html Thank you very much
  2. Hi Members, I've tried repeatedly to setup Outlook 2007 to pull my Heliohost email from the Heliohost server but to no avail. I've followed the instructions in cPanel under Mail ---&--#62; Webmail ---&--#62; Configure Mail Client but nothing worked. I successfully logged onto incoming mail server (pop3) (stevie.heliohost.org) but failed at "Send test email message". The "Test Account Settings" dialog box in Outlook 2007 said: Send test e-mail message: Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). Is it a port issue? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. I also "UN-checked" the option titled, "Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" in the Outlook 2007 Internet E-mail settings. When I "check" the box for this feature, Outlook fails to connect to incoming mail server (pop3). When I leave it UN-checked, Outlook 2007 will connect but can't send email. Thank you
  3. Ok Found it! Further searching resulted in the following links that explain how the web server (Apache) processes the request (from a client i.e Firefox, Chrome web browsers)) to deliver/load a web page via a network. The first 5 links listed are on-topic. Also listed are other links referencing historical aspects of the internet and internet related. Excellent reading. 1) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_server 2) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Client_%28computing%29 3) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_HTTP_Server 4) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Server-side_scripting 5) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_network 6) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_web_server_software 7) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_hosting_service 8) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_hosting 9) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_web_browser 10) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.com 11) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.org 12) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Internet_top-level_domains 13) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Name_System 14) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet 15) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outline_of_the_Internet 16) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intranet 17) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Index_of_Internet-related_articles
  4. Hi Wolstech, Interesting! Thanks for the explanation. What search terms would I best use in google to read more about your reply and how Apache displays and sends web pages to users? Read the "Apache wiki" but its a bit complex. Perhaps I'm not utilizing the correct search terms. Still googling information. Thank you kindly
  5. Ok but it still does not answer my question as to why the file extension "index.php" is displaying the HTML part of the code output which reads "My first PHP page". If the file extension ,php only processes php code and ignores everything else then why did it print the html output that reads "My first PHP page"? Displayed below I have both HTML and PHP code in the same file with the file name "index.php". Thank you kindly. <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <body> <h1>My first PHP page</h1> <?php echo "Hello World!"; ?> </body> </html>
  6. You are correct! I changed the file name from 'index.html' to 'index.php' and the PHP code output is now displayed. I thought if I changed the name to anything other than 'index.html' then perhaps the html code would not be displayed. In other words, how is the html code being displayed with a PHP file extension? The code shown in my first post includes both HTML and PHP. Yes, I'm a newbie at programming therefore please be patient. Thank you kindly.
  7. Hi Members, I'm new to PHP and just finished creating a new file to start coding. I understand Heliohost supports PHP. I created a test file and coded the following simple code. <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <body> <h1>My first PHP page</h1> <?php echo "Hello World!"; ?> </body> </html> Upon viewing the final output page, all that is showing is, "My first PHP page". I do not see the additional, "Hello World" which is the PHP script. Why is it not being displayed ?? Thank you
  8. Ok I'm back up! Thank you Byron for the speedy support. Heliohost is amazing and so are their techs!

  10. Perhaps the chicken arrived first. Perhaps it arrived in today's form in one way or another. In other words, was the chicken always a chicken? Or did it become what it is today as a result of millions of years of evolution? Or creation? Was there a "dinosaur" chicken? Perhaps the egg was a result of some form of evolutionary protection for the fragile newborn in an environment that slowly required a "shell" for it's initial protection and survival. Perhaps millions and millions of years ago, such an environment did not require a "hard shell" entry into the world. Just a thought.
  11. I finally installed a Linux distro about 3 weeks ago. I chose Debian "Squeeze" stable. Learning a lot. I'm dual booting Debian and Windows using 2 separate hard drives (one for each OS). Right now I'm trying to figure how to get youtube videos to play. Apparently I need some sort of flash (as in Adobe flash).
  12. Check out the movie called, "Contact". The movie was released on July 11, 1997. It's an awesome movie about God and Science. The movie is timeless and certainly one of my favorites. See: http://en.wikipedia....i/Contact_(film) Watch the whole movie here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0GJdGzAzKM
  13. Hi Members, I've been researching how to convert my web page code into code that allows it to be viewed on cross platforms. Can anyone recommend a link that explains how to accomplish this task in a -somewhat- easy to understand format? I'm fairly experienced in HTML. Here is my web page: http://education.heliohost.org/elizabethreed/index.html Found this but it seems way over my level. http://www-archive.mozilla.org/docs/web-developer/xbdhtml/xbdhtml.html Thank you
  14. I wanted to start a thread on helping to promote Heliohost. I noticed certain reviews on websites that are not accurate in regards to the wonderful service that Heliohost provides. I find Heliohost to be a great find and make the time to help participate in spreading the good news. I added my positive reviews to the following web sites below. This list will be expanded as I locate other web sites that post reviews of Heliohost. We should all participate! http://www.free-webhosts.com/ http://www.000webhos...s/heliohost.org http://www.web-hosti...d/heliohost.org Cheers :-)
  15. Yes Ubuntu apparently has the largest support system but I was digging deeper and found some interesting distributions whose philosophy is 100% free and open source software. Free software is a matter of freedom, not price, although free software is usually distributed at no charge. Think "free" as in "free speech", not "free beer". Apparently many Linux distros have non-free software. Ubuntu installs non-free software by default. Debian provides non-free software through its repositories and includes non-free kernel drivers. Some really interesting Distributions (aka - "distros") are: https://trisquel.info/en http://www.gnewsense.org/ http://www.dynebolic.org/ What is Free Software? http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html http://www.fsf.org/about/what-is-free-software Philosophy of the GNU Project http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html GNU/Linux distributions that promote 100% Free Software http://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.html Guidelines for free system distributions http://www.gnu.org/distros/free-system-distribution-guidelines.html
  16. Yes it sure is an interesting subject. This is my favorite question (Is there a God?) as I experience consciousness. I studied philosophy in college and really enjoyed the subject. I find myself born into consciousness and I certainly "hope" there is a God and that he listens to my prayers and I try to hear him speak to me. I certainly "hope" there is eternal life after death simultaneously accepting the fact that my physical body will cease to exist some day. I always wonder where my precious deceased family members and friends may be. Just "where are they"? Funny in that I never assumed they are gone forever but I simply and consistently always ask the question to myself, "where are they"? Can this human train of thought that I dwell in be "an accident or a bye-product" of world with no meaning? a world that simply evolved by accident? A brain that evolved to question it's own existence -all by accident-? a train of thought that asks "why am I here"? to be such a bye-product of a world that exists without a God? I doubt it.
  17. God is unconditional love. Love and respect for ALL humanity. The process of understanding God starts from within. WE can know all the science but what about compassion? Compassion is love and love is from God. " But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you", Matthew 5:44 -- New International Version (NIV)
  18. We are on our way to having free and open source operating systems that are tailored to ones individual needs. Linux is awesome! It's already here but hardly made a dent on the desktop market. This community is gaining ground!
  19. Hi Members Been busy for awhile learning all about the world of free and open source. What a community! I figured this post would relate to Heliohost in that Heliohost offers free web space. Anyone using Linux? What distribution do you use and why? What desktop environment do you prefer? KDE or GNOME? Some interesting links I found are listed below. http://en.wikipedia....ux_distribution (Look at the Timeline chart on the right) http://en.wikipedia....x_distributions http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Linux_distributions http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64_Studio http://en.wikipedia....ware_Foundation http://en.wikipedia....ware_Foundation Be well!
  20. Hi Members I am continually adding code and updating my website. I find myself constantly mixing code on my website. Can someone please point the way to a link or give advice as to the drawbacks of mixing HTML and CSS code together on the same web page? At times I find the proper code to utilize is written in HTML and other times CSS. I am more fluent in HTML than CSS but find good use for CSS code at times. Have a look at my site: http://education.hel...reed/index.html Thanks and have a great day!
  21. Hi Members' I run a few different operating systems up to windows 7 but I must say that my pride and joy is the computer I constructed back in 2000. I still utilize this system to this very day. Specs are: Motherboard: iWill DVD266R CPU's: TWO (2) Pentium III Coppermine Cpu's at 1 GHz each Memory: DDR - Capacity is 4 gigs but I only have 1 gig installed Video card: Matrox Millennium G450 Dual Screen Video Card Sound Card: M-Audio Delta 192 OS: Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4 DVD R/RW CD R/RW Although this system is outdated by most standards, it functions perfectly and I utilize it everyday. It is a reliable workhorse. Check out this great link that describes this iWill DVD266R motherboard. It was the first board to introduce DDR memory (back in 2000). http://www.xbitlabs....l-dvd266-r.html See pic below: iWill DVD266R Motherboard
