I voted for gmail because of the security implementation they have and they have an IMAP and POP support. I have yahoomail and hotmail accounts. I also use yahoomail more than gmail.

Did you entered your username/password incorrectly for a couple of tries? Let's wait for the admin's feedback as I don't and can't help you in this.

I have the free and got an access to it. But maybe I'm wrong because I haven't touch it for the reason they might terminate my account.

I am not sure of this but I guess hostingforfree.us allows/offer shell access on their free hosting service.
