Because firefox is more secure and standards compliant, I think you should use it.

IE supports ActiveX, the most spyware is installed through that system.

Internet explorer is less compliant to the w3c standards then firefox

You should use Opera if you care about security. Opera is less used, which makes it safer than Firefox. Opera is also about as compliant as Firefox, also incorporating a few of IE's css properties that FF doesn't support.

I've tried opera, but there where a bunch of sites that couldn't be loaded by opera.

If you want to make flash sites, you'll need macromedia flash mx.

If you don't like spending time on layout you can choose a "what you is what you get editor", you can build a site without coding with it.

Open office is really slow here, so for little documents I prefer use abiword.
