What Server Is Down More, Stevie Or Johnny?
Bad Wolf replied to Nathan Johnson's topic in Customer Service
Stevie. Old. Tired. Loaded. He's just hoping for some rest. -
Nah. The staff got Johnny to take some load off from Stevie. So... technically speaking, thereĀ“s already another server to help Stevie and get some load balance. I rather say Stevie is an old soldier just wishing to make his way back home. By home I mean some nice and quiet shelf, away from gigabit connections or AC plugs. Maybe we can collect some bucks and get her a companion Mac with fine lines so he can enjoy his retirement.

That's good news (LoL...). You may want to leave the script just like that for a while. Ok... just kidding.

Nah, not fixed Or well, yes... fixed. But that was on the 27. Today, the problem is back. Sorry to tell... I reviewed several of the urls for the guys who had the problem solved, and they are down as well, so I presume it's a server wide issue. Interesting. I hope you are not using IIS!!! See you later guys, I know you'll fix it. Thank you in advance.

Aweasome!!! I bet Stevie is also gratefull!

Thank you, Wizard. At this time, I am deleting the files and uploading the backup. By the way, I am not sure, but it seems like the bandwith of a hacked account will increase. Mine says 10.96MB, but I don't think my page is that popular... I changed the password for something horrible and long. Hope that helps. Best regards, Bad Wolf.

Yes Thank you, Byron.

Just a question: is it safe to upload files now?

Hi. I have the feeling that no news are out about this problem. I just replaced the index file, however my annoying domain provider, co.cc, is asking me again to renew the subdomain. So, in the meantime, I can not check what is going on.

[Solved] mail function -php- is not working
Bad Wolf replied to Bad Wolf's topic in Escalated Requests
Aweasome!!! Thank you, djbob! It is surely working nicely, I appreciate it. However, I have one more concern: you said the /var partition was filled, and you had to clean it. So, what I would like to know is if this will happen again and we most notify you whenever it occurs, or if the problem raised due to a temporary glitch? Once again, thank you!!! Best regards! -
Hi, Desugrace. Not to annoy you, but... no way you could not read the question. It was right before byron's response, the one telling you to use desu as username. It is really hard to grant the posibility of not seeing it. I can, however, say that you did not pay much attention to it, because it did seem to be more a casual question (like: why are you wearing a t-shirt?) than a red flag question (like: why you wear a forbidden t-shirt?) Sorry you are leaving us. I mean it.

Good evening. Domain: arcadya.co.cc login: arcadya (Note: if you want the short story, skip the next lines and go straight to 'the techie part' below) Last week I created a script in my script folder (this was a little bit redundand...). The script is 'enviar.php' (sorry for the Spanish). Now, I added some nice things, like a captcha feature and field verification. Disregard that, the problem is near the end of the script. If all the fields are non-empty, and the email looks valid and the captcha is ok, the mail function will be activated, and an e-mail will be send to my personal e-mail address from stevie's resources. And a 'success' page is displayed. I know it works because I tested it a few times last week. Or at least, it used to work... By Saturday, I decided it was nice enough (and today, I decided I must add a field for the phone, but that has nothing to do with this), but on Sunday evening, the dns went down for heliohost accounts. The website was unaccessible and I had no need to check it again. Today, everything was back to normal, so I told a friend in another town to test the feature. Then I found the mail function is no longer working. Now, the techie part: I am not sure if it has anything to do with the recent problem of the dns service... actually, I can't see a relationship, but it might be related. I have no means to check it myself. I checked the bandwith, and found no peaks. That's what the captcha is for, anyways. Neither have I received a single email from the site since the weekend (edited: not necesarily true: I got one email from the forum helionet.org, I checked for update on a topic, but I am not sure wether helionet.org runs or not on the same server. However, no email from the domain arcadya.co.cc has been received). I could not find any error log regarding php within my files or the cpanel. I found no similar problem posted recently in the forum. Then I decided to check from the Webmail itself and my yahoo email. I sent a test email from my yahoo to stevie, and it did not arrive. Then, I tried to email from Webmail to my yahoo mail, and: I got this message using Horde: Failed to send data [sMTP: Invalid response code received from server (code: 451, response: Error while writing spool file)] So I tried to send with Squirrel: Message not sent. Server replied: Requested action aborted: error in processing 451 Error while writing spool file But I am stubborn, so I tried with RoundCube: Invalid response code received from server. (this one is shorter and faster...) I will appreciate your help with this, Best regards, Bad Wolf.

Good evening. I have to disagree with Desugrace, however I have to admit he deserves a little credit. First, this is not the only free host around. But from my little experience with free hosting, I can tell THIS has a lot of resources and freedom I can not find in others. To put it simple, I get from heliohost.org as much as I would receive from a shared paid host, without having to pay a cent. I don't even know how these guys are doing to pay for it and I can not fully understand it, yet. But they do, and for free! All I am asked is to put a little bit of effort in some basic points, but that is more than fair. Now, I'm sure Desugrace had pritty much the same perception I have... until his account suspension. And I can understand his point of view. (Yet, he's not faulty-free in his claim). Wizard, I don't agree about the 'fair warning'. I read the post in the link you posted and first, you just asked this: "Why does your website contain nothing more than a picture of a "download" button and a bunch of shady surveys?". If I was Desugrace, I wouldn't think that means 'Why you have that? Either explain or take it out, otherwise we may suspend your account'. Desugrace, in the other hand, FAILED to answer this direct question (no doubt he read it). Maybe if he did so, he would have known that the content was not acceptable. Not replying was rude from him. Back to Wizard, your warning of the suspension was posted after Desugrace got his solution. Honestly, I wouldn't expect him to read it in that point of the timeline. Most people will not go back to a forum thread after they get what they wanted. However, if I am not mistaken, the account is only 'suspended', not 'deleted', therefore if Desugrace was not this rude, I think he could have the chance to review the situation with you (Wizard) and find out what to do in order to have the account back to business. Bottom line (about time for it), the whole thing is a missunderstanding (product of deficient communication) and I believe Desugrace over reacted. However... and this is a good-faith suggestion, isn't it possible for the admins to have a 'serious warning' button? So then, if you consider someone HAS to reply about something or face penalty, you can easily send an e-mail warning him to go back to the threat and reply in short time. Yes, I know it is not really the sort of things that go in the 'must-do' list, but I really regret to find posts like Desugrace's, and specially when a little bit of communication could have make it have a happy ending. God... I wrote too much! And I came to the forum to ask something completely different...

Aweasome, djbob!!! It is indeed working greatly! Thank you for your help!

Hi, djbob! Any update so far? I know you guys are doing a great effort, but I am confused... because if desugrace's page is working while ours isn't, then... it is not the server? It is me again! login: arcadya domain: arcadya.co.cc After researching, a while (well, I had not time this morning... I had to go to work) I have found interesting things. First, Stevie is up and running: nothing wrong with it. Second, www.co.cc is up and running... again, nothing wrong with it. Third, ns1.heliohost.org and ns2.heliohost.org are both responding to ping requests, therefore... they can not be that messed up. Still, my browser gives me this error: Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED). Uh... could it be that the dns daemon is down? (Or at least, partially down) I reviewed some other .co.cc domains I googled, and some of them work, some others doesn't. The heliohost.org ones I've found won't work, same error. Well, that's all for today, I guess. Will try again tomorrow. Have nice rest!

The first thing is... I hate Internet Explorer! It really s***! The way Mykrohzofd disregards standards and fails to improve annoys me. When everybody does a fine work designing with css rules and javascript that will work wonderfully on most browsers, still we have to design twice, just to prevent our masterpiece to look messed in ie browsers. When Mozilla hit the web (R.I.P.) I switched inmediately, and I lived happy for a while, then Firefox came, Mozilla died and I switched. Then Chrome arrived, I tested it and I found it simple enough to use, robust enough to trust and fast enough to prefer, plus some features that I like. However, it's hard to decide which one should be first. Matter of factly, I think FF and Chrome share the engine... at least, the proyect was based the the source code of the Mozilla project. Let's say Firefox rocks, Chrome rules and ie s***s! Note: post is self censored, but I think we all know what I think about ie/mykrohzofd!

I agree with TomasM. Furthermore, you may consider to give a size to the elements in the page using percents instead of pixels.

I am Catholic. Problem with most of the religions is not the religion itself, but the people. Ghandi said if people acted the way the Bible tell us to, world would be different.

Actually... I think the whole server must be down. My website isn't loading either. Too bad, I was willing to show a new feature I added in the weekend to a friend!

Hi, Zizuno. I am not an admin, and my expertise is not in MySQL. However, I dealt with it a few times in the past. What I've found is that problems will appear as soon as we forget-add something silly. I noticed your error message ends with '(using password: NO)', but in your code you have a line for a password '$pass = '***';'. If I am right, I think either the password most be omitted if it's void, or at least the statement should be for an empty password ($pass = ''. Or you may need to create the password for the database. It could also be interesting if you posted the other ways that did not work before. Best regards, Bad Wolf. Ps: the admin may have another opinion... I would like to see how your problem gets resolved
