  1. To be honest, advertising will most likely follow the natural course of economics. The reason that advertising exists is because the capitalistic economy has incentives for such (I'm not saying that capitalism is good or bad). Start with the example of Google. It had started as a college project for a person. He saw the incentive of making money by allowing advertisements to be placed on the search engine. Likewise, if those advertising companies see that it would be in their benefit to make more targeted ads (it's ads, not adds), then they'll do it. If they think that advertising only certain products to certain people will reap them more money than otherwise, then they'll do it. That's the system of incentives. If people respond poorly to the targeted ads, then the companies will, of course, stop making them. Most likely, though, they won't, and they'll get more and more focused to make the companies more and more money.
  2. It seems that the problem was that it had to be in a .gz compressed file. I had thought that it could take the raw, uncompressed version, but apparently not. Thank you all for your help, and I'm sorry if I've been a bother or a burden.
  3. It really depends on what you define a "World War" as. There have actually been more than two world wars in history because of how such conflicts as the Seven Years' War between England and France involved their colonies, including those in North America. The conflict that would have evolved without U. S. involvement after what we call World War I would have still included Eurasia, Africa, Australia, North America, and South America, all of the habitable continents. It would still have been a "World War". I mean, given the situation that you've set out, you're talking about if World War II would have occurred after World War I. In that scenario, Hitler's Germany most likely would have continued his expansionist ambitions across Europe, Japan would have wished to become a major power in the Pacific, and Italy would have wanted to develop more African colonies. This would have run counter to interests in the U. S. as business would've sought resources from such places, and there would've been something of a push for war. Other factors would have contributed as well. Thus, I'd say that it was inevitable.
  4. By the very nature of your question, it's impossible for anyone to definitively know. I mean, for instance, if there were indeed a higher power that called us all into being, then, logically, that power has the ability to wipe us out of existence. Therefore, it is only based on that being's will that we exist, and we could thus be said to not exist. As another way to consider this, imagine an all mighty being with questions about what is real. Everything that he believes would be real simply because he believes it to be real. In effect, it doesn't really matter if you are or aren't real. You need to continue to live your life to its full extent and set an example for other people. That way, if you are real, then you'll know that you did something good. Personally, I'm real .
  5. I made a complete backup a few days ago in order to move around a few files and to do general cleanup, so I have a copy of my old MYSQL database. I have been trying to use the Backup Wizard to restore this database, but every time I attempt to do so, I receive a pop-up of http://www.heliohost.org:2082/frontend/x3/...osqlupload.html. It says "Restoring Database", but it doesn't have any other information as when I restore my home directory. When I check my databases via cPanel, it shows that it hasn't been restored. I know that I'm using the right .sql file, by the way.
  6. In my opinion, it doesn't truly matter whether there is an apocalypse or not. One should be focused upon living a good life, not when the world will end. All in all, I suppose that it is possible for the end of the world to come at any moment, be it in 2012 or at any other time.
  7. I'm having the exact same problem as described in this thread. http://www.helionet.org/index/index.php?showtopic=6812. The basic error when I try to install something via Fantastico is . I'd also like to say that it only started after I had installed and then uninstalled WordPress through Fantastico. I am perfectly alright if I need to install things manually from now on. I just wanted to bring this to the administrators' attention so that they know it's happening quite often.
  8. It depends upon what you consider to be a chicken egg. Is it an egg laid by a chicken? Or do you consider it an egg that contains what will become a chicken? If you believe in the first definition, of course, the chicken had to come first. If you believe in the second one, the egg had to come first. In reality, the first chicken egg (an egg containing what would later become a chicken) was laid by a chicken-like bird.
  9. Yes, I would like my HelioHost (website hosting) account deleted as well. I am extremely sorry for the confusion. Thank you for changing my username here, though.
  10. Thank you for the quick reply. Could you please just delete this forum account, then?
  11. I'm sorry if this causes anyone extra work, but I made an error when I first created my HelioHost account. In my opinion, it would be easiest for me to simply re-register for another account. However, I would still like the domain name that I had signed up for, so I don't want to wait the full thirty days to sign up again. As a side request, could my HelioNet account be renamed? I would like both the login name and the username to be Infinaety. If this is not possible, please delete this forum account. My HelioHost account is on http://infinaety.heliohost.org/. I can provide information to verify that it is my account because I created a HelioNet account after the HelioHost account was made. Again, I apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause for you administrators. Thank you in advance for replying.
  12. It is actually proven that evolution is a real thing. To say that it doesn't would be the equivalent of saying that matter isn't made of atoms. In my opinion, the only real question should be whether or not evolution was used in intelligent design. It is actually possible that such is the case given that it's very likely that something had to have created the universe if it started from the Big Bang.
  13. I use Windows 7 mainly because of the available software. Some of the tools available on Windows are hard to find on other operating systems.
