On: Stevie

Username: hostage

Domain: http://abstest.heliohost.org/

Hi I am a new member and was trying to sign up and made a few mistakes as well as perhaps caught a bug. Originally I created an account on Johnny because Stevie had reached its limit for the day, but today I woke up early to get an account on Stevie (I only use PHP so might as well use Stevie). I first deleted my account on Johnny (but it said that could take up to a week to be processed). I know I should have waited 48 hours as the wiki page says, but I was a bit impatient and just wanted to signup before the limit was exceeded again.

When I tried to sign up for Stevie I put the username "host_age", but it told me it was an invalid username even though it said that there could be underscores (is this a bug or did I read it wrong?). Then I tried again with "hostage" and it told me that there was an error with no other details, I assumed it was because either I was using my email or this HelioNet account which I already linked to my Johnny account which was probably not deleted yet. So I left the HelioNet field empty and changed the email I was using.

The only problem is I wrote the wrong email. Now I tried to login to my cpanel and was able to, where I changed my email to the correct one, but I never "activated" my account by email, will this cause problems? Also is there any way to link this HelioNet account to my new hosting account? I know it says you cant at the signup page but it would be a pain to have to delete my account again (and then wake up early to sign up again) to do it.

Hopefully I posted this in the right section, and thanks for your voluntary help, it is much appreciated.

Actually, you don't need to activate your account. This is done automatically by the HelioHost systems. ;)

I can change the email for you if you like. Let me know what email you wish to change it to. Or, I could change it to the same as the HelioNet account for 'heliocopter' if you like?

The reason you received a fail message on your second signup was because you used the same email. Our Terms of Service stated that strictly only one account can be created by one individual. When you used the same email, the signup script detected that you were attempting to own two accounts and failed. Multiple signups are also detected via IP addresses.

I don't think underscores are permitted; where did you read that you could? I know that symbols are definitely not allowed, so underscores probably count as a symbol.

You did post in the right section, thanks! :D

Okay, thanks, that is good to hear.

I actually already logged into cpanel and did change it to the same as this 'heliocopter' account but thanks a lot for the help. Unless of course the email in the "update contact info" from the cpanel is not actually the account email? If I am mixing the two up then yes I would appreciate if you would change it to the same email as this HelioNet account.

I see, I thought it might also be the fact I tried to use the same HelioNet username, so I left that blank. I was wondering if you could possible link this HelioNet account ('heliocopter') with my hosting account on Stevie. If not that is fine, but it said on the signup page that it was good to link the two as it provided better support etc ("This optional field will greatly ease the support process in the future and cannot be set later.").

Exact message after I used the name with the underscore: "We're sorry, but that is an invalid username. Valid usernames can contain only numbers, characters, and underscores."

I attached an image of the screen I got. post-23230-1308415026.png

I do not know if it was intended that underscores should be allowed and there is a bug in the signup script or if it is just a message mistake and you never meant to say underscores are allowed but I thought I'd bring it to your attention because it can be a bit confusing.
