Secretmapper Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Hi! I have a few questions about hosting. I have migrated from another host, which had been taken down, into this host. I have already installed Wordpress. As anyone of you might, or might not, know, Wordpress has a Network functionality, which pretty much makes you host numerous blogs. I'm only aiming for two, which hopefully won't be that much of a problem to the server. However, after trying, I find that I could not. After reviewing the "installing a network guide" I noticed that there are some rules: You cannot create a network in the following cases: "WordPress address (URL)" is different from "Site address (URL)". "WordPress address (URL)" uses a port number other than ':80', ':443'. You cannot choose Sub-domain Install in the following cases: WordPress install is in a directory (not in document root). "WordPress address (URL)" is localhost. "WordPress address (URL)" is IP address such as 127.0.0.1. You cannot choose Sub-directory Install in the following cases: If your existing WordPress installation has been set up for more than a month, due to issues with existing permalinks. (This problem will be fixed in a future version. See Switching between subdomains and subfolders for more information.) I'm going for a sub-domain install. Please help. Here is a link to the guide: Click here! I'm telling you this so that I can rule out if it is not just possible, or I am doing something wrong. If it is not possible, please inform me. Thank you!
Guest Geoff Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I would recommend two seprate installations of wordpress. It won't eat up to much space, and since you have 250mb, you should be fine.
Secretmapper Posted April 2, 2011 Author Posted April 2, 2011 I would want to do that, but that would mean two databases, unlike a network, which would have the same (and thus would have the same users). I may try again to install a network. It might be possible that Stevie had a huge server load, which gave out a 500 page
rvt Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I seem to recall setting this functionality up on here a couple of months ago when it first came out so it should be doable. I'll try and check to make sure it is still doable some time in the next 24 hours if needed.
Secretmapper Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 Wait a minute, it changed. Now my subdomain, is queued. And you said subdomains are queued for 24 hours before being active! Maybe that's the problem? I'll try an wait for 24 hours so that my subdomain is ok.
