Richardgvr Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Hi, I'm sorry... I feel so dense. I would appreciate your help. I've read the FAQs and CAQs but can't quite figure out what I'm doing incorrectly. My Heliohost domain name is greenvalleyrecording.heliohost.org and my user name is richard I am able to see my website online at http://greenvalleyrecording.heliohost.org/richardgvr/ I own www.greenvalleyrecording.com and have tried to redirect that address to the heliohost site on the domain control page at godaddy.com, where I registered the url. With GoDaddy I have listed http://greenvalleyrecording.heliohost.org/richardgvr/ as the site location where I'd like the redirect, and also changed the nameservers to ns1.heliohost.org and ns2.heliohost.org. But typing www.greenvalleyrecording.com comes up in a search engine... please tell me what I'm doing incorrectly. Thank you. Richard
Wizard Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 You should remove the redirection, the nameservers are all you need. You also need to add "greenvalleyrecording.com" as an Add-on domain on cPanel. This will create a folder called "greenvalleyrecording.com" and you should move everything from the folder "richardgvr" to that folder in order to see it when you go to www.greenvalleyrecording.com. However, with this, you will no longer see your website at http://greenvalleyrecording.heliohost.org/richardgvr/. A more advanced method is creating a syslink from richardgvr to the folder greenvalleyrecording.com. With that, you could keep http://greenvalleyrecording.heliohost.org/richardgvr/.

Thank you again for your timely reply Wizard! By now you're very aware that I'm really a babe in the woods with website vernacular and process. So... would it be EASY for you to explain the sylink option (hopefullly step by step)? If not, I'll take your first suggestion. Further... how do I "move" the contents of the "richardgvr" folder to the "greenvalleyrecording.com" folder? TIA Richard

TIA Richard You can use a FTP client or the file manager in cPanel in order to move files from one directory (folder) to another. I can't tell you exactly how to do it, as I've never had to do it before and I don't have time to work out everything right now. I did a quick search and here are some posts you should look at if you feel like trying this for yourself: http://www.helionet.org/index/index.php?sh...ic=6420&hl= Some PHP knowledge is required.

Okay, Wizard, I will read the link. However, PHP is not in my toolbox. Thanks. You should remove the redirection, the nameservers are all you need. Okay, Wizard, I will read the link. However, PHP is not in my toolbox. Thanks. Wizard... I added greenvalleyrecording.com as an add-on domain which did create a greenvalleyrecording.com folder. I successfully copied (not moved) the files from my "richardgvr" folder to my newly created greenvalleyrecording.com folder in cpanel. I disabled the redirect at godaddy. The nameservers are still correct on godaddy. I can still see my site online at http://greenvalleyrecording.heliohost.org/richardgvr/, but www.greenvalleyrecording.com just brings up the "HELIOHOST ACCOUNT QUEUED" message. Does this just mean I have to be patient and wait, or is there something I still don't have right? Thanks again. Richard PS: I did try moving the files from richardgvr to greenvalleyrecording.com, but that didn't bring up the site with www.greenvalleyrecording.com either.
Guest Geoff Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 You need to wait 24 hours for apache to restart. Your domain will then become active.

Guest Geoff Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 There is really no way to tell if you have done things right until your site becomes active, but it appears to me that you have taken all of the right steps.
