Hello,

Completely new to this, so please be gentle with any answers!

I have just used Microsoft Publisher to create an 8 page website of some travels that we have just got back from and wondered if I could use 'HelioHost' to host this website?

I would like to upload the files to 'HelioHost' having set up an account, but not sure if Microsoft Publisher files when you create 'Webpages' will work on 'HelioHost'?

Can anyone advise me please?

Thanks in anticipation.

I'm not familiar with Microsoft Publisher but if they end in .htm, .html, or .php I'm sure they'll work on heliohost. Anyway it can't hurt to upload a few and see.

Thanks for imparting the 'confidence factor'.

I have just 'applied' for the web hosting account so will have to wait for 24/48hrs to see if it works.

Now Account is 'activated' which was good to see.

Tried using 'c-panel' for transfer of files, consisting of (Folder ) 'Index_files' & Firefox 'index' file from my PC to 'public_html' which locked up.

I then tried the 'Secure Disk' software, but after transfering the 'Index Folder' on there was nothing in it, and the Firefox 'index' file the transfer locked up and would not respond.

I then tried using FileZilla ftp Software program but that kept coming back with mutiple errors of connection failed, to many files being tranferred, and to many failures as opposed to the number of files successfully transferred.

I also tried the following in Windows Firewall after closing down ZoneAlarm as I cannot 'adjust' Ports in the Free Version but this made no difference as the transfer still locks up in either c-panel or the 'Secure Disk' program:

"Note: Ports 2078 (SSL) or 2077 (non-SSL) will need to be allowed on your computer's firewall to use the Web Disk."

Can anyone help please?

Thanks

Try to ftp your urls with this tool. Just make sure you use your Return key to seperate each url so each one is on a seperate line.

http://byrondallas.heliohost.org/tools/ftp...oader-multi.php

the Base: is just your domain name. For me that would be

http://byrondallas.heliohost.org

Directory: should start with public_html and then whatever folder you want to ftp to.

Let me know if that works for you and I'll post you a text version of the tool you can have.

You can also use net2ftp it should work because it is not a program installed on the pc.

If you go to just the webpage style, then no it won't work

when you go to save, click Save As and save as a .htm or .html file

You can tell if you've already done so by seeing if the file is .pub or .html

.pub = no

.html = yes

Hello Byron & Bill.

Thanks for your help, now for the sad and sadder news!

Firstly Byron,

I tried your "http://byrondallas.heliohost.org/tools/ftp...oader-multi.php" substituing my Base for yours but got a 'File Not Found' Error when I hit the return key.

For Bill,

I did get a bit further by using 'net2ftp'.

I went through uploading 38 Files from the necessary folder each one separately only to find that only 8 had made the 'trip'when I then went back into the directory at 'public_html' this gave me part of the first web-page but no pictures and some text missing.

Now when I tried FileZilla again it tells me each file is going across and I get 100& Green Bar, then 'File Transfer Failed'

I think I will be on the Anti Migraine Pills before the night is out over here!!!

I will also say that the file transfer with FileZilla is very slow, but with my own Telephone/ISP provider it is very quick.

Any further help please?

Thanks

Hi 'Moko'.

It would appear that when using Firefox Mozilla it does not show you if the file is '.pub or .html' but as I have uploaded the webpages/files to my very restrictive 15Mb of webspace provided by my ISP and it works then I can only assume that they are in the correct format namely .html,

However I don't know if it has got anything to do with it but I noticed when I got started this morning that for the c-panel or was it the Secure Web Disk the 'Instructions' only referred to 'IE'.

Don't know if this helps?

Not sure why you got a 404? After filling out the forms on my tool and using http://timeout.heliohost.org as an example of your site, did it look like this?

Hmmm I have never experienced all the bars going across with filezilla and then it saying file transfer failed. I know that this is most likely not the case but have you checked your antivirus program. (Some restrict the access of applications and limit their capabilities.) Filezilla is also slow for me. :(

Are you using heliohost? How are you uploading it to your ISP's webspace? Heliohost offers 250mb of space.

Hello All,

Many thanks for your help and assistance on this.

I must admit that I 'goofed' OK Hands Up.

When Bob advised me to use 'net2ftp' having 'browsed' files to be Uploaded whilst their were NO Instructions to say 'Click the Green Tick part way up on the Left Hand Side' I didn't, so that's why the 38 Files didn't make it and only 8 did, because the instructions were not clear!

However having found the error of my ways it was rectified and I now have a web-site, with all 39 Files Uploaded albeit quite slowly and between 4 and 6 files at a go and relatively quickly.

Thank you Bob

Sadly I have to say that both the 'c-panel' specifically 'File Manager' did not and will not work for me, neither will the 'Helio Secure Web Disk' which for some obscure reason locks up when I use either.

I am beginning to think however that it might be something to do with me using Mozilla Firefox as opposed to IE which I will not give hard disk space to on my PC, sorry but a time in PC Security takes me that way, also that I am in the UK and with the length of the wires and the steam driven PD/Connections etc then things get slowed down between here and there!

Or maybe Gordon Brown has upset somebody and the 'Pipe' just got slimmer!

Thanks Guys I really appreciate all your assistance.

Best wishes

Did you copy the URL, or click it? IPB contracts URLs and puts ellipses in the middle; as such, the URL you quoted is not valid.

Hello djbob.

I copied the URL inserted my details for 'byrondallas' hit return and got the 'Error Message' but no problem as it now appears that the solution from Bob works then I will stick with that and maybe occasionally try the 'c-panel' or 'Secure Web Disk' to see if they work.

Clearly FileZilla does not, but is exceptionally fast on Upload to my ISP's server, but the ISP cannot display European Characters, Quotation Marks or Inverted Commas, putting BIG SQUARES in your Webpage text instead which look gruesome and totally unprefessonal.

Many thanks

Hi Guys,

Must admit to being a bit puzzled this morning.

Using 'net2ftp' I uploaded some modified files to the website however they did not overwrite the original files that are there?

I had to use 'c-panel' or 'FileZilla' to delete the exisitng files and then re-load the modified files.

All the files have the same 'names/titles' as the previous versions but I am not sure if it is the settings in Helio or net2ftp cannot overwrite with newer files?

Maybe somebody will have the answer please?

Thanks
