schase Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 After deleting all the core files that had filled up my disk space, I notice that the Stats panel in cPanel doesn't correctly display disk usage (it's showing 181Mb usage, when there is much less actual use). It does display correctly in the Disk Space Usage page, though. Unless there's some other hidden core or similar files that I haven't been able to find... I found the tip on email notification of core dumps, so hopefully can manage this in future. My site is design-computing.heliohost.org
Ashoat Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Try waiting 24 hours. There are two separate utilities used for measuring disk space: du (always accurate) and df (takes less time, related to ls's showing of disk usage). It takes a while for them to sync up.

There are two separate utilities used for measuring disk space: du (always accurate) and df (takes less time, related to ls's showing of disk usage). It takes a while for them to sync up. The Stats panel is still stuck at 181Mb, while Disk space usage is at 3.41 Mb (correct). This has been for at least a month, including all the downtime.
Ashoat Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Is it causing some difficulty or preventing you from being able to use something?
schase Posted August 17, 2009 Author Posted August 17, 2009 No usability problems, just pointing out a bug. Is it causing some difficulty or preventing you from being able to use something?
Ashoat Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I'm going to go ahead and leave this as is. It's a bug with cPanel, and bugging them about issues like this usually takes a long time. Plus when requesting support from them, I have to leave HelioHost's sshd open to PasswordAuthentication, which increases our attack surface (a security issue).
