I've noticed that you offer SSL manager, does this mean I can run a shopping cart and information will be encrypted by ssl technology and what is an ssl certificate

That explains about ssl encryption on heliohost. An ssl certificate is a certificate per se, and it tells people that the web site is encrypted. To install one, you generally need a dedicated IP. There are many people out there who will sell you ssl certificates. Just do a quick search here.

Ok, so I can setup SSL encryption without having to purchase a certificate, what i've gathered is that a certificate is just to say who you really are and it is checked by companies such as verisign

This server doesn't have a dedicated IP, so CPanel won't let you install a SSL Certificate. That's why I linked to that topic -- it should have let you know that.
