AverageJoe Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Does any one use a unix operating system? I have linux on one of my computers. I only have windows on the other because my favorite games are only compatible with it. I can't wait until opengl gets a better hold than directx. Just wondering what other people are using, Joe Quote
infinity Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 I use distributions of Linux. I have 1 computer on Debian right now, and I had one on Knoppix. Open source rocks. Quote
AverageJoe Posted November 2, 2007 Author Posted November 2, 2007 I have a computer running ubuntu, but I'm thinking about switchng it to fedora. Quote
infinity Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Hmm. Fedora is OK. I like Ubuntu better, but you must like it better for some reason. Red Hat is one of my favorites though. Quote
andy Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 I have Ubuntu 6.06 on one partition, WinXP on the other. I very rarely boot into WinXP, but it would take me a while to transfer files onto the Ubuntu partiition and reformat the Windows half. I really should buy a second disk. Red Hats a nice distro if you want commercial support. My University used to ave Red Hat machines, now they switched to CentOS. Luckily nothing much broke either. Quote
Kelso Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 I use Ubuntu 7.10 and Mac OS X (Now that its officialy UNIX). I plan to install Solaris. I used to have Windows, but it crapped out every month or so. Not that I expect anything better... Quote
Lena Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 I use FreeBSD on my workstation (it's not desktop, it's bedside ). Also, I made a web-kiosk (a computer running a web-browser only) for my mother using FreeBSD (and Firefox). No M$ in this home. Quote
AverageJoe Posted December 24, 2007 Author Posted December 24, 2007 I run freebsd on my computer now, as well as windows xp. Freebsd doesn't have any driver support for my NIC so I can only get online with my xp computer. I really like freeBSD though. Joe Quote
Lena Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Freebsd doesn't have any driver support for my NICMay be 7.0 has. Possibly using Windows driver under FreeBSD. What card? Quote
Kyougi Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 I run ArchLinux exclusively on my desktop. 'Tis the only PC I have. Quote
