zexon Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I'm having some rather odd issues, and I'm not sure exactly what is causing them. I think it may be my ISP, but if it is I'm not entirely sure what to do about it. Basically, I currently can't get to anything on my website, or from what I can tell, anything on johnny.heliohost.org. I can, however, get to Cody. The problem started around noon today when Outlook started giving me errors about not being able to connect to my mail server. At first I thought nothing of it (I'm the only user, and wasn't fully reading the errors it was throwing). I fully realized the error a couple of hours ago, and started to delve into what might be going on. I can connect to my website if I use my phone, or an online Traceroute/Ping tool, or anything that doesn't go through my router or modem. When I do try to get on through a device on my network, however, I get a Connection Reset error. I've run some traceroutes on my site, and this is what I came up with. A Normal traceroute looks like this:TraceRoute to 64.62.211.131 [manygeek.com] Hop (ms) (ms) (ms) IP Address Host name1 0 0 0 206.123.64.42 - 2 0 0 0 64.124.196.225 xe-4-2-0.er2.dfw2.us.above.net 3 7 1 0 206.223.118.37 10gigabitethernet3-1.core1.dal1.he.net 4 53 50 49 72.52.92.153 10gigabitethernet8-1.core1.fmt2.he.net 5 77 47 46 184.105.213.29 10gigabitethernet2-1.core1.fmt1.he.net 6 46 46 46 66.220.10.126 lafrance-internet-services.gigabitethernet3-15.core1.fmt1.he.net 7 47 47 46 64.62.211.131 johnny.heliohost.org Trace complete Whereas the traceroute from my network looks like this:traceroute to manygeek.com (64.62.211.131), 30 hops max, 40 byte packets 1 10.0.224.1 (10.0.224.1) 8.375 ms 9.591 ms 9.472 ms 2 COX-68-12-10-76-static.coxinet.net (68.12.10.76) 9.095 ms 12.488 ms 10.501 ms 3 COX-68-12-8-146-static.coxinet.net (68.12.8.146) 12.445 ms 12.608 ms 10.228 ms 4 mtc3dsrj01-ae4.0.rd.ok.cox.net (68.12.14.0) 10.813 ms 10.095 ms 18.809 ms 5 68.1.2.109 (68.1.2.109) 20.036 ms 13.573 ms 23.375 ms 6 10gigabitethernet3-1.core1.dal1.he.net (206.223.118.37) 14.236 ms 31.501 ms 25.025 ms 7 10gigabitethernet8-1.core1.fmt2.he.net (72.52.92.153) 57.933 ms 58.771 ms 58.294 ms 8 10gigabitethernet2-1.core1.fmt1.he.net (184.105.213.29) 57.317 ms 60.940 ms 58.574 ms 9 lafrance-internet-services.gigabitethernet3-15.core1.fmt1.he.net (66.220.10.126) 58.361 ms 57.554 ms 69.194 ms 10 * * * Request timed out. Since the connection is getting out into the world, I don't think it's my ISP, my modem, or my router. I'm really not sure what is wrong with my connection. Anybody encounter something like this before? **EDIT**: Changed the post to be a bit more readable. EDIT 2: Well, apparently it was my router. I'm not sure why, but for some strange reason my router wasn't letting me get to johnny.heliohost.org. Applying a firmware update fixed it. I will never know how this worked.
