Kevin99 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Hey Guys, I have spent since Friday trying to understand why I cannot get ftp right and I've read the forums and faqs. I'm using Core ftp (LE) and the config file supplied from the cpanel. I get this error: Started on Tuesday February 21, 2012 at 11:02:AMResolving wormsmart.heliohost.org.coreftp... Can't establish connection --> wormsmart.heliohost.org.coreftp:21 @ Tue Feb 21 11:02:28 2012 (11004-100)The requested name is valid, but no data of the requested type was found. I can manually configure three ftp clients but using this info supplied by you, I can only send stuff to my ftp folder and not the folder where my website will go: /home/wormguy/public_html/wormguy Manual SettingsFTP Username: wormguyftp@wormsmart.heliohost.orgFTP Server: ftp.wormsmart.heliohost.orgFTP Server Port: 21SFTP Server Port: 1373########### Domain: wormsmart.heliohost.org So any help would be appreciated. Thanks.Kevin
anush Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Kevin try typing in username as -wormguyftpthe rest may not be necessary, if u still find it difficult try longing into ftp://ftp.wormsmart.heliohost.org/ then type the username as i told. tell if this is not solved.
Kevin99 Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 I'm having some serious problems with this forum today; half-page loads, crashes, etc. I'm not sure if it isn't my laptop. I might re-install everything at the weekend when I have some personal 'downtime'. I tried to edit the above post but after my typing the forum disallowed it. Forunately I had copied the text - here it is: Just to let you know, I used FileZilla and hated that and could not find where to put the config file. However I have been using Core ftp LE and manually configured that. I have set the 'home' page to every permutation of "/home/wormguy/public_html/wormguy" and still I end up in the ftp folder. I have put test index.html files in all of the www subfolders to see if I can point my core ftp program to that but no luck. I will keep trying but I'm guessing this might not be me.
anush Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Kevin if you are using file zilla here is how to configure manually 1)open file zilla and on the left side top corner in file take site manager.2)click new site (give name for a site or it will be named 'New Site' by default)3)Enter as follows HOST-ftp.wormsmart.heliohost.org Port-21 don't do any thing with protocol and encryption Logon type select normal user name- wormguyftp password - your password account - won't be available for normal user.now click connect things will go fine. and there is some problem with this form for a few day i don't think there is much problem with your laptop.i have reported it guess it will be resolved soon.
Kevin99 Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 Thanks Anush - I've replied a few times but this forum is rejecting the updates. This is my last try and I'll log in again in a few days to see if things are better. I'm hoping this will post - I've tried everything at least 3 times. I chacked the ftp and I know for a fact that no matter what homepage I put in, it will always take me to the ftp folder so I'm expecting that it's not my issue. As I say, I'll log in again later but for now I'll teach my kids some html.
anush Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Ok Kevin you are welcome. your request for multiple accounts can only be answered by our admins. hope they will do it before you log in next time. the problem with forum is same hereit has been reported, wish it will be resolved soon. have good time teaching you kids html. try to teach them css too.
Kevin99 Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 I can ftp to my other webspace so I know I'm getting it right. Will someone please check this is just me here, or if it a system-wide thing? After doing the variants of public_html, home, wormguy, etc the ftp client saysno such directory exists. Right now,I'm going to focus on building my webpage and my sons html sothere's no real pressure, but it will be good to know in due course. ;-) thanks.
