  1. If it were a wrking site on the heliohost server it would be using the heliohost name servers.

It's not a working site on the heliohost server, it's just sitting there without any content.

If you have a site on the heliohost server it has to use the heliohost name servers.

How did Upendran manage without it then?

  2. No not a screen shot. Just a simple html page with that domain.

There are no html pages with that domain because it does not exist. I used diablosa.za.net during registration at heliohost because the registration would not accept diablosa.co.za. But diablosa.za.net is not registered as a valid domain as far as I know and it does not have any dns servers hosting it.

You said you wanted the adminstrator to change you heliohost domain to this:

    http://diablosa.co.za

Which is already hosted somewhere else. If he does that then you would have two sites using the same domain name.

Yes I did ask but that's OK since:

    1. I don't want to use heliohost's name servers.

    2. No one could ever ask heliohost's name server for the IP to my site because the name server is not authoritative according to the domain registrar. If I set up a dns server at my house that points google.com to 123.123.123.123 it will never effect anyone or anything because the I haven't changed the whois file on the .com registrar's server. And I can't either. So if the administrator changes my domain to diablosa.co.za the only thing that could happen is me being happy.

  3. 1) From what I can tell you don't even have this site with Heliohost to change:

    http://diablosa.za.net

Post a working page from that domain name.

What do you mean with a working page? Like a screenshot of the cpanel page?

    2) You can't have two sites using the same domain name. You will have a dns conflict.

I don't want two sites with the same domain name. I'm not sure what I said made you think that I do.

  4. I know. I'm not going to point a nameserver to it before it is changed to .co.za or I find a way to get past that restriction because I don't own that domain and I don't want it either. I think the easiest solution would be if someone could change the za.net to co.za

If somebody else already owns this domain name (http://diablosa.co.za) then you CAN'T use it. But you don't even have this domain (http://diablosa.za.net) to change even if co.za did belong to you.

I'm not sure you understand. I want the following to happen:

    1. A person types in diablosa.co.za in their browser or clicks it from google or something.

    2. The co.za domain points the user to ns1.eu.editdns.net because that is how I registered it. This already works perfectly and it's almost impossible to change.

    3. ns1.eu.editdns.net contains a record that sends any user that wants to visit diablosa.co.za to 82.197.131.62 which is a file host's shared IP. This already works perfectly.

    4. 82.197.131.62 accepts the user because the user is requesting diablosa.co.za. This already works perfectly.

I want to change the 3rd and 4th steps as follows:

    3. ns1.eu.editdns.net contains a record that sends any user that wants to visit diablosa.co.za to 65.19.143.3 which is a file host's shared IP. (heliohost's stevie server)

    4. 65.19.143.3 accepts the user because the user is requesting diablosa.co.za.

But if I change my dns servers's record to 65.19.143.3 the following will happen:

    3. ns1.eu.editdns.net contains a record that sends any user that wants to visit diablosa.co.za to 65.19.143.3 which is a file host's shared IP. (heliohost's stevie server)

    4. 65.19.143.3 rejects the user because the user is requesting diablosa.co.za. A diablosa.co.za 'folder'/'catagory' (I have no idea what the server's insides are like) does not exist on the server.

  5. btw, is this you Heliohost site now?

    http://diablosa.za.net/

Is that the domain that you use to login to your cpanel?

Yes and yes. I tried to have it changed to diablosa.co.za but oh well.

This site http://diablosa.za.net/ doesn't work and shows NO nameservers connected with it.

I know. I'm not going to point a nameserver to it before it is changed to .co.za or I find a way to get past that restriction because I don't own that domain and I don't want it either. I think the easiest solution would be if someone could change the za.net to co.za

  6. Yes and I am perfectly happy with my current name server. I don't want to switch to heliohost's name server, it's going to take a very long time.

Then this domain http://diablosa.co.za/ will need to stay pointed exactly where it's at if your happy with it that way. It can't point to Heliohost too.

Yes I'm fine with that, as long as I've made myself clear about the fact that I want to skip heliohost's name server and use just the file server.

If you want Heliohost to host your site you will have to change name servers.

Are you sure about this? Why could Upendran stay with his previous name server?

btw, is this you Heliohost site now?

    http://diablosa.za.net/

Is that the domain that you use to login to your cpanel?

Yes and yes. I tried to have it changed to diablosa.co.za but oh well.

  7. This domain name ( http://diablosa.co.za/ ) can only point to one name server. Either the name server you currently have or heliohost's name server.

Yes and I am perfectly happy with my current name server. I don't want to switch to heliohost's name server, it's going to take a very long time.

But since you say you already have a working site with Heliohost, then why can't you just use a parked domain?

I don't have a working site with heliohost. I can simply copy my files from my current file host to heliohost though. But that would be pointless since I can't/ don't know how to make my name server work with heliohost. At the moment I have the following record on my nameserver:

    name; type; TTL; IP

    diablosa.co.za; A; 86400; 82.197.131.62

If I simply change the IP to 65.19.143.3 (my heliohost shared IP) it doesn't work. I think it is because heliohost doesn't host a site called diablosa.co.za. (in cpanel my Main Domain tag reads diablosa.za.net. I have asked djbob to change it, he said he did, but he hasn't.) I think that is probably the main problem.

If I try to park the diablosa.co.za domain I get the following error: "Error from park wrapper: Using nameservers with the following IPs: 64.251.10.77,72.249.105.234,74.52.212.235,91.186.15.45,87.239.16.157 Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associated with this server. Please transfer the domain to this servers nameservers or have your administrator add one of its nameservers to /etc/ips.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver."

Someone had exactly the same problem (except for the co.za vs za.net issue) and he resolved it:

Is it absolutely necessary to delegate DNS services to your servers to add my own domain(s)?

I use the services of dnspark.net for my dns service. I get excellent enterprise grade services free of cost upto two domains and 200,000 DNS queries per month.

I use Google apps for email and chat, MS Office Live for web hosting. I want to try heliohost for for managing dynamic content (I will experiment with some CMS and decide on that).

By changing name servers I will have to disrupt existing services. Besides I do not want to leave dnspark.net

Is there a way out? Letting me add a host record in my current dns and allowing me to add the add-on (sub)domain to heliohost will not affect you in any way.

Update: Eventhough cPanel says that DNS service must be delegated to your servers. It allowed me to add the addon domain (a sub-domain under my main domain). Then I added a host record to my DNS pointing to the shared IP address displayed in cPanel. It works!

  8. That is because my site is currently on another filehost. But I want to change to Heliohost, while keeping my current DNS host.

So I have separate hosts for domain and file hosting. I want to switch only the filehost from my current one to heliohost. The DNS hosting is working perfectly, and the reregistration process takes a very very long time. So I'd prefer to not use heliohost's DNS hosting.

  9. Wait now I remember what happened. I posted the following message a while back in Customer Service > Name Server Issue, What if I want to keep my current DNS host?

    Thanks for the speedy reply!

I get the following error message if I try to add diablosa.co.za as a parked domain:

Error from park wrapper: Using nameservers with the following IPs: 67.19.72.206,72.20.25.134,64.158.219.3,66.252.1.255,67.18.179.15 Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associated with this server. Please transfer the domain to this servers nameservers or have your administrator add one of its nameservers to /etc/ips.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver.

I guess this is because I already have nameservers set up for diablosa.co.za. So I would be really nice if you could simply change my domain to diablosa.co.za. I have sent you a pm with my details.

I sent djbob a pm (about 4 months ago) and he said he changed it. I waited a day or two for the change to take effect and then I think the site went down for a while. Since I was very very excited about launching my site I went with another host. Since then I discovered they suck really bad. So about a week ago I logged into cpanel on heliohost to check if my site is still standing. I noticed my Main Domain is still diablosa.za.net and not diablosa.co.za. So I sent djbob another pm asking him about it, but he hasn't replied yet.

Anything I can do except wait?

  10. I have already registered a domain, let's say www.mydomain.com.

Can I host the files for this domain on my account on heliohost.org? Considering that I also updated the DNS server addresses to ns1.heliohost.org & ns2.heliohost.org ...

    Thanks !

I have the exact same problem. Well I think I do. Basically I want to manage my own DNS-related hosting. I just want to use heliohost's site hosting capabilities, not DNS hosting.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

  11. Thanks for the speedy reply!

I get the following error message if I try to add diablosa.co.za as a parked domain:

  12. I have a similar problem. The domain I used to register was just temporary (well I thought it was). I just typed in diablosa.net because the registration did not accept diablosa.co.za, thinking I'll change it afterwards. But now it's doesn't seem I can.

So now I own diablosa.co.za and I'm using freedns and everydns and everything is working perfectly. Could someone change my main domain to diablosa.co.za? Or is there some way around this?
