  1. According to stats

    CPU, Memory and Swap are OK

    Then what is happening to the HTTP service? Any Info? Please check guys

    Ok mods...here is what I have seen or analyzed. First SPAMD increases the load and goes down. Next it takes more services with it. Please check

    Also Quoting

    Spamd is one the highest resource consumer on a cPanel server. It allocates a lot of memory from the get-go and holds on to it throughout. There is a way to limit the number of spamd processes that are spawned. On a cPanel server, which is what this guide covers, there is a configuration file called /etc/cpspamd.conf with the following lines:

    maxspare=1

    maxchildren=3

    For a leaner server. we recommend dropping maxchildren to 1 and maxspare to 1. This will save a good hundred of megs of memory. Don't forget to restart exim for these changes to take effect.

  2. I know that this is not possible, 99+% of the people on the world will tell me that I should go and have my head examined, but I would really like to see "on the front of the box" truth, only truth and the whole truth about ANY product or service.

    not possible in this era. From a holocaust war to the stainless steel screw nothing is what in front of the box. even a Gold medal is approx 90% silver ... so what can you expect? well this is out of subject .... but yes I agree to some extent the thing of professional grade web-hosting but the fact is whenever there is a thing FREE, one should test it before making any excuses.

  3. Actually I am seeing the page right now. Yes it happens occasionally when the load on Stevie is High. I think the only reason why only the server load is down on monitor is that we have the monitors for FTP HTTP and CPANEL. They all should be working fine even if MySQL is down. But there can't be any (or maybe negligible) load on server since most of the sites on Stevie are PHP based.

    Well, at the heliohost I can see the cross in-front of Stevie. Means its really down. Although I was waiting for a reply from any of the mod about the expected completion time. I don't know whether it takes that long to upgrade MySQL (I think it shouldn't). Maybe somebody just messed it up a bit :P

  4. Ok.... so you said above that some of the accounts were causing load on MYSQL. Swap file is large too and according to XAAV apache is eating up a huge chunk of memory causing the slowness....

    so just curious

    http://httpd.apache.org/security/vulnerabilities_22.html

    especially quoting

    A flaw was found in the way the Apache HTTP Server handled Range HTTP headers. A remote attacker could use this flaw to cause httpd to use an excessive amount of memory and CPU time via HTTP requests with a specially-crafted Range header. This could be used in a denial of service attack.

    Advisory: CVE-2011-3192.txt Issue public: 20th August 2011

    Update released: 30th August 2011 Affected: 2.2.19, 2.2.18, 2.2.17, 2.2.16, 2.2.15, 2.2.14, 2.2.13, 2.2.12, 2.2.11, 2.2.10, 2.2.9, 2.2.8, 2.2.6, 2.2.5, 2.2.4, 2.2.3, 2.2.2, 2.2.0

    Can this be the cause? or is it just casual MYSQL load increase?

  5. Hello,

    Whats with the severe load on Stevie since 8 AM UTC? Also seeing this error

    "Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL"

    much more frequently now. I am not the mod so I don't know the reality behind it (might be MYSQL server is getting abused) although this is the similar kind of stuff that happened before the Stevie went down for 4,5 days last time. Is anybody keeping an eye on it right now?

  6. Can you guys post some screenshots of the error. maybe we can help..

    its not an error i think ... the whole server is down due to disk inconsistency.... actually I think it was on the cards since the root partition had a very little space left there.... Am I right?

    Behold.... its back up :-) FINALLY .... GOOD JOB DJBOB

    PLZ MAKE IT A STICKY OF SOME SORT.... FOR YOUR OWN SAKE....BACKUP YOUR DATA GUYS :-)

  7. hmmm ... m not a pro when it comes to linux ... but in windows i find EaseUs suites of data and partition recovery the best... unfortunately i don't know if its possible to run that on linux using wine but at the event of data loss . I would suggest giving it a try as I myself have used it on multiple occasions 100% recovering TB of data on servers easily and successfully ....It does support Ext2 and Ext3 file systems though

  8. @wizard ... I think it will be better if we should hope for the best and also for you guys if you should focus on reminding users to create backup (using some mechanism) rather than reminding of the TOS :-) ... Its a natural thing people do get mad when they lose their data.... This way you will let them know their mistake without making them yell at you. Anyway my point of this post was to understand the state of damage that has happened. If you do get contact with djbob again. Can you let us know the state of damage? so we can be prepared rather than waiting 4,5 days more and then knowing that our data is lost.... I think this is a fair call....

  9. Hmm... Yeah i know ... We normally should create backup ourselves. Actually that's not my point. From the admin's post regarding extended downtime, it says something about part of the server being corrupted. And from the HelioHost Server Monitor, now its not showing the Disk Info meaning the server is completely down now (DISCONNECTED) not only the services running on it... anyway to get back to the point since part of the server is corrupted, what about our data? Is it secure? intact or is there a possibility that it may also have been damaged?

  10. Hello,

    I have read announcement from you guys regarding the extended downtime on Stevie. Since there is nothing I can do to ease the pain, can you guys tell me is our data intact and secure? Also is it possible to get a backup of our data. I know its sound difficult since you guys will have to UP the server first to start the FTP service. But my main concern right now is the data stored. As like most of us I haven't took a backup (wasn't ready for this sort of downtime).

    Please respond ASAP
