    BIG downtime

Yeah, the risk of data loss due to hardware failure is higher now.

    BIG downtime

Today's downtime (and Sunday's earlier in the week) were the result of electrical problems with our datacenter (Hurricane Electric). Since I also recently de-journaled our /home filesystem (from ext3 to ext2) to improve disk I/O performance, the power cycle forced our machine to perform a very long e2fsck to confirm disk integrity. Short answer: we should be a good bit faster because of the de-journaling, but when electrical problems like this force a power cycle, we might stay down for a day. Electrical problems are rare for datacenters and hopefully this won't happen again.
  3. So I just removed Fantastico because it's been taking a lot of CPU and disk on the server. Instead, I upgrade Softaculous to a Premium license and fixed it.
  4. Your account will be deleted within one month of you not logging in. Closing thread...
  5. Are you able to use http://mail2web.com/ to send emails?
  6. I'm able to connect just fine. Please go here and log in with your cPanel username and password and see if it works.
  7. I've opened a support ticket with cPanel about this. I'll let you know when I hear back.
  8. Because the server has 20,000 users and a lot of them do stupid stuff and I can't really prevent their stupid stuff from downing the server sometimes. In short, the reason is that this isn't a full-time job for me. Most servers are a lot easier to administer and are administered by people as their full-time jobs.
  9. So I'm not entirely sure what's going on. What I know is that somebody managed to change the root password as some point, and they managed to do some stuff as root. I'm going to reboot the server now to upgrade the kernel.

    Downtime and stuff

Sorry about the even-more-recent downtime. This time was really cPanel's fault...
  11. Which mail service are you having trouble connecting to? SMTP, IMAP, or POP3?
  12. Weird... Is this currently occurring?
  13. So I figured out what was causing this. Short story: somebody registered gmail.com and somebody registered hotmail.com.
  14. Oh, you were right. Okay; you've been granted a dedicated IP.
  15. This is a service that we're partnering with. Basically, they give you free SEO, and if you upgrade to a paid account HelioHost gets 30% of what you pay. Still working with them to figure out the bug.
