What is the difference between immigrants and criminal trespassers?

Some like to argue that everyone's ancestor was an immigrant to this country at one time. This is true, but why do proponents of illegal immigrants like to compare illegal immigrants with the immigrants of the past?

The original immigrants, whom we refer to as American Indians or Native Americans today, traveled thousands of miles to get here. They built their societies here and when the Europeans came, they welcomed them and helped them to survive. We all know how that ended for them.

The Europeans came and used might or sometimes guile to take America from the Indians. They brought the Africans, unwilling immigrants, to America and together, they all built this country to what it is today.

They all fought together in the Revolutionary War to gain independence for the new country. Blacks fought in segregated regiments for their freedom during the Civil War. The 14th Amendment was added to the Constitution to give them (not the offspring of illegal aliens) citizenship. During the 60's, Blacks fought for civil rights. They had the right to participate in protests and demand changes because they were actual citizens!

Some immigrants came over and starved to death because there were no welfare programs for them to abuse. They didn't have the luxury of sending their children to tax payer funded public schools to attend ESL classes. They learned English, though. Some, actually coming to this country because they wanted to be Americans, even changed their names to more Anglicized versions.

Knowing all this to be true, how can you compare these people to the criminal trespassers today?
