Ashoat Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Hey guys, It looks like Google Adsense has disabled our account. They claim that we were using our ads on pornographic pages, which is absolutely not the case. I imagine somebody grabbed our ad code and stuck the ads next to porn or something. Anyways, I've appealed the decision. Stay tuned. This could mean really bad stuff, because our colocation, bandwidth, and licensing costs are almost entirely supported by Adsense revenue. Thanks, djbob
Byron Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Good luck with this. I'm sure Google will understand. Surely this isn't the first time this has come up with Google?
rvt Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Based on other free hosts I know, Google is not lenient at all. Did they just ban your adsense account or did they ban the entire .heliohost.org subdomain?
Byron Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Maybe this will help you some djbob? http://www.leadsleap.com/blog/my-google-ad...nt-is-disabled/ Check the section "Let The Sunshine". http://stason.org/articles/money/how_to_br...sense_down.html
zonedabone Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 So most of the site's revenue comes from us linking to other sites? Smart! They go to other hosting sites and see how superior heliohost is!
Derek Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 An unhappy "customer" might have gotten disgruntled about Heliohost and spammed clicks. I read those two links from byron and a bit of Googling, and it seems if you get illegitimate clicks, then your account is suspended, no questions asked. It doesn't seem as if you can prevent this from happening either...
Guest Geoff Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 You might consider an alternative to Google Ads, it does not look like anyone has a good chance of getting their account back. Even if you do get your adsense account back, you should still consider an alternative for situations like this. Eg: You could serve a mix from google and adbrite. Or, if your account gets disabled, you have a backup revenue. Here is a list of alternatives I found: <a href="http://www.rosswalker.co.uk/adsense_top10/" target="_blank">http://www.rosswalker.co.uk/adsense_top10/ </a> Edit: Ok, this is starting to scare me; Im worried heliohost will go bankrupt and there wont be a heliohost anymore.
Jo Lang Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Edit: Ok, this is starting to scare me; Im worried heliohost will go bankrupt and there wont be a heliohost anymore. I this a real concern? Are we at risk of losing heliohost?
Kbailey Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Edit: Ok, this is starting to scare me; Im worried heliohost will go bankrupt and there wont be a heliohost anymore. I this a real concern? Are we at risk of losing heliohost? We are at risk of losing a free ride. FOLLOW THE MONEY. Hosting is not TRUELY free, it costs. Maybe noyt you or me, but it costs SOMEONE. Thus far, it was costing Google. This may be about to change. So, worst case, we form a CO-OP and turn heliohost into a member owned cooperative, and it comes with modest dues. Scrape it up, we're talking short beer money here, not gasoline for the month money. $5 a month for membership perhaps? Dig it out of your student load cash, pay a year at a go, we can keep heliohost alive come what may. SYSOP: stick a donate buttun through paypal on the footer of every page you know how to serve. BS walks, money talks. Got anything to say people?
Guest Geoff Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Djbob, Please stop just WAITING for google to let you have your account back and get ads from another source. Even if you don't make as much money, at least you'll be making some.
