Duckie & Ze Calvinator tried the same way as you, and failed. DJBOB tried, and had some bad luck, until he purchased his own hosting (or you can go with his hosting). I just think that your site lacks two things: good hosting (free or not) and a reason to go there. And yah, that banner is really annoying.
