Nova Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I was just wondering what everyone thinks the 'meaning of life' is. My thought is that life is what you what it to be. The meaning of life could be death. It could be to make the Earth a better place. In my opinion, it is all of these things, because, as I said, it is what you believe. Just wondering what everyone elses thoughts are I believe that the purpose in life is fellowship with the lord, and the meaning behind this is being a loving person.
openmp3 Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I believe that the purpose in life is fellowship with the lord, and the meaning behind this is being a loving person. And why? According to John 17:3, this leads to eternal life...
Wukl Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 No, we live to die. If you don't survive, you'll die, of course. But, if you survive, you'll die too. Life ends with death anyway, so we live to die.
avattz Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I am reviving this thread instead of starting an entirely new discussion. So, like... what is the meaning of life? Why do we care about the survival of ourselves, our family, our people, and humanity? Essentially - why don't we just drop down and die? Personally I've often thought that the answer lies in nature documentaries - where you see animals reproduce and do their best to promote their genes. Thats what I also think the meaning of life is, once I have a family of my own my life quest is complete. I also like 42 as the answer to life, all we have to do now is find the meaning of 42. I don't know where I found the following quote but it put things in a whole new perspective (well for me anyways): Life is a sexually transmitted disease with 100% fatality rate.
subwhiz Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 life is just temporary.. the permanent is the life in the spirit...
Endry Lim Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 I believe that living a purposeful life should be the purpose of a meaningful life! Don't you guys agree?
Claire Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 There is no purpose. Empty and meaningless. Make up your own purpose if you want, but as far as a universal purpose for us all - there is none.
Endry Lim Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Claire... Why say so? Why doesn't the universe has a purpose? perhaps its existence allow humans to find their own purposes.
Claire Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Claire... Why say so? Why doesn't the universe has a purpose? perhaps its existence allow humans to find their own purposes. Why do I say so? - it is obvious. With out evidence a 'theory' or speculation as to a purpose for life is just a guess, or a wish, or a hope. It is not founded in reality, just ideals. Examine the facts and they do not support the theory. It has been the creation of a theory or ideals without verification that clouds thinking. Start with a theory, look for experimental evidence or verification. It is exists, fine. If there is no evidence - throw out the theory - for it is WRONG. We exist; we can find / make up our own purposes; we can speculate and project purposes; but in actuality - none (at some higher level) exists. I see no problem with that line of reasoning. I see wholesale problems with the assumption that life has a purpose that is based on myth or assumptions that can't be grounded in reality or facts. If your thought is that the purpose of existence is to allow humans to find their own purposes, well that is nonsense. There is no purpose to existence. Second point (but not connected to the first) is that was can find our own personal purpose - but that is not the purpose of life - just an outcome. Existence does allow us to find our own purpose - but that is not the purpose of life or existence. Most people in the world can't accept that reality - so they make up the theory (or simply accept old popular theories - same thing) that god exists. They create god - not the other way around (that god created them). They create a belief system that god exists, has some purpose and created life. All nonsense and theory with no facts or reality to support the notion.
pajn Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 42 of course. The problem is what the question is.
Claire Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 42 of course. The problem is what the question is. That stopped being clever about 15 posts ago (and 15 years ago as well). Congrats
