The CIH computer virus did try to overwrite the BIOS which could render the PC unable to boot. Normally it would just require replacing the motherboard (or the BIOS chip itself). My machine is getting pretty old now. Needs to upgraded when I find the time/money. 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 (Hyper Threaded) 512 MB Ram Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 Surprisingly it still runs pretty fast.
