myscrnnm Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 The video card is a vital instrument for playing intense computer games. So, which brand makes the best GPUs?
myscrnnm Posted February 8, 2005 Author Posted February 8, 2005 Just their cards, or any cards with their GPUs? Cuz I usually prefer cards made by other companies. Like Asus or Visiontek.
lappy512 Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 any cards based on them, like ASUS's cards are basically based on ATI/Nvida's
myscrnnm Posted February 8, 2005 Author Posted February 8, 2005 Actually, two cards from different companies can have the same GPU, but the cards can be completely different. Like, one from Asus might have a fan and a TV-in socket, and another that is made by ATI might only have a heat sink and a TV-out socket. Even though it is highly unlikely that an ATI video card would not have a fan, it is an example of how much two cards from different manufacturers with the same GPUs can differ.
Ashoat Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 nice! i was actually planning to get that a while ago, except as a All-In-Wonder - 9600*X to be exact.
myscrnnm Posted February 8, 2005 Author Posted February 8, 2005 actually i have a Radeon 9600 without a fan  My point exactly. Different card manufacturers will have different things on their cards, regardless of the GPU, unless of course there is something required for the GPU, like in some cases, fans for more powerful processors.
Ashoat Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 yes, but this topic is about the GPU, not the whole card, right?
myscrnnm Posted February 9, 2005 Author Posted February 9, 2005 I expect so, but lappy512 mentioned the cards and soon we were discussing cards. I will start a topic about video cards later.
calvinator Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 I agree, ATI makes the best ones, but the one i have now is nvidia (cheaper )
Ashoat Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 lol, i was doing some research a while ago, and i found ATI was cheaper...
calvinator Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 eh, for me, for the quality I wanted, nvidia was a better bet.
myscrnnm Posted February 18, 2005 Author Posted February 18, 2005 Hmm, it looks as though nobody is voting for 3D Labs. I guess nobody likes a high-end brand anymore.
wee Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 well i dont know enough about this to make a choice. i should do some research
