SAN`A, Yemen - Yemen's president was re-elected to another seven-year term, grabbing more than 77 percent of the vote in the first serious balloting since he came to power 28 years ago, state-run TV reported late Saturday.

His challenger, Faisal bin Shamlan, received 21.82 percent of the vote, according to a statement issued by the elections commission and read on Yemeni TV.

More than 6 million of 9.2 registered voters cast ballots in the elections, held on Wednesday, the statement said.
