Hey Guys,

I've been thinking and I've come to a theory, if evolution is true we are a virus I mean we came from bacteria, replicated and spread all through the ocean then started invading land and grew and grew.

The world was a dusty rock before life began and it seems that we are an infection to the planet, isn't it ironic how something so wonderful and great like the beginning of life's existence turned into this, I mean we are destroying the planet everyday of all the life forms on it we are the worst.......CRAZY THOUGHTS :D

What are your thoughts on the matter ?

Donno about dusty rock as water has been here in liquid form for quite a long time and many theories of the origins of life here posit that it started in water. As to virus though, I think you may be mean parasite because we humans surely are symbiant creatures. The web of life is intricate, we are part of many food chains, we create new food chains and destroy entire species, we make new mountains, islands, deserts, and other land forms as well as new plants, bacterias, viruses, animals, vegetables, and minerals... I'm very lucky to have been in the presence of the creation of amino acids, (basic building blocks of life), by electro-chemical stimulation of inert molecules - now that's a trippy thing!

May I ask why anyone is saying "IF" evolution is true? I thought it's a given. mmm.

Yes, I guess the human species have viral traits.

I believe we're too eager to see the future now and we face it unprepared. We've come a long way in some respects, we're a beautifully stupid, smart and funny race, but looking at the big picture, we're a bit of both, dust and water. We're not revolutionizing anything... we as a race were born, are growing old and are going to die. Meanwhile, we're only part of it all, but we don't care, we're having a good time living the present! And we will multiply and infest/infect as much as we can, of course. Until the story reaches an ending. As long as we're going, it doesn't really matter where to, because most of us as individuals don't really care how our actions may affect the whole of humankind or its future.

Let's be clear about what a virus is: it's a little bag full of DNA that contrives to be ingested or otherwise taken inside a living being such as a bacterium or a more complex creature. When the bag breaks open the DNA spills out and finds its way into the reproductive process of the host, programming it to produce more of the virus DNA, often at great cost to its host. Computer viruses act in a similar way so the analogy implied by their name is apt.

So no, we're not viruses. We tend to get very concerned about what is happening or may happen to our living environment as a result of our actions, but that doesn't mean we're viruses. We're beginning to have quite a large effect on that environment, and this in turn may affect our living conditions and possibly, our long term survival since we're at the top of the food chain.

Oh yes, top of the food chain. Now I know what we are: we're the apex predators.

We've become so successful and we're so resourceful that we're fast eliminating natural predators and other pressures that keep the population in check. While there is a good argument that our population growth may peak during the next decades and then begin a decline, this isn't known for certain (I myself am very skeptical). But even if we do reach a peak in population, we have to come to terms with the fact that our existence is changing our environment at a fairly rapid rate. This why some geologists have begun to refer to the current geological period as the Anthropocene:
