  1. Something I learned is that if you want to make money with your hobby site you have to create content, content other people would like to read like tutorials, reviews, or your opinions. Once you have a constant stream of content going in, you'll have a constant stream of visitors visiting, and then you can start selling off ad space. Getting a domain name is important because its basically your brand name on the internet, and $7-9/year investment isn't bad especially since you already have quality free hosting (1&1 hosting charges $4 a month just for hosting). The main trick here is getting people interested in your site, and you need content to get them interested.

Another tip, most new website owners almost always put advertisement placeholders on their website or web design, this is a bad mistake, design your website without advertisements, when the time comes you can redesign the website to support advertisements.

  2. I am reviving this thread instead of starting an entirely new discussion.

So, like... what is the meaning of life?

Why do we care about the survival of ourselves, our family, our people, and humanity?

Essentially - why don't we just drop down and die?

Personally I've often thought that the answer lies in nature documentaries - where you see animals reproduce and do their best to promote their genes.

Thats what I also think the meaning of life is, once I have a family of my own my life quest is complete. I also like 42 as the answer to life, all we have to do now is find the meaning of 42.

I don't know where I found the following quote but it put things in a whole new perspective (well for me anyways):

Life is a sexually transmitted disease with 100% fatality rate.

  3. I use Google Chrome as my primary web browser on both the Mac and PC. My backup web browsers is Firefox 3.6 on the PC, and Safari 5 on Mac. For Linux I use the default which is Firefox. As for Internet Explorer I only use that to download Google Chrome and then remove it via Programs and Features.

  4. I also use Gmail, its very easy with its additional services. I was trying to find the perfect RSS reader (I've tried many on the Mac and PC platform) but I never knew the one I liked the most was right next to Gmail, Google Reader. Docs is an interesting concept with its any-file storage, for now though I'll be sticking to Dropbox.

  5. The Egg came first. The egg mutated to become a chicken. Probably from Dinosaurs. The Dinosaur eggs came from fish, which evolved and evolved to the next and next species, usually keeping the one before, making Dino's.

I also agree because a dinosaur gaining feathers midway of its life would be strange. Also mutation to a human body only occurs when there is significant amount of hazardous radiation, while a baby can have extra limbs or digits when it's born, which is quite common.

I accidentally voted for chicken lol .

  6. I dual boot Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6 on a Macbook Pro, while my older HP Pavilion is powered by Arch Linux. I used to use Fedora 11 on the Pavilion but a friend over Guild Wars said to use Arch Linux because Fedora is "hand-holding" me. I'm still pretty new to Linux so if anyone wants to be my Linux mentor, PM me. ^_^

  7. Hey guys, my name is Antonio, or Tony for short. I just hit the 20 year mark and currently reside in the chilly city of San Francisco. I am currently taking an online degree program for Web Design and Development. I joined HelioHost primarily to host a few projects I have in mind (some have progress :P). I hope to see you guys around in other threads!
