  1. Both Johnny and Tommy now have fully licensed Softaculous available to everyone to install the latest version of 459 different software packages with just a single click. If you're not familiar with Softaculous it automates the installation of most popular software with the latest version, and can help you easily stay up to date as well. Since we offer free hosting we attract a lot of people who are new to web hosting, and installing some software can be very confusing if you don't know what you're doing. With Softaculous you just pick the software, enter a few variables, and click install. When we switched control panels we canceled our Softaculous subscription because Plesk comes with a built in software installer, but after using it for a few years we found it to have very out of date software, and not very many options. We recently reached out to Softaculous and they agreed to give us a non-profit discount to help us fulfill our mission to provide high quality, free or low cost hosting options to students, small businesses, and anyone who can't afford paid hosting. We hope you enjoy it. Let us know how it works for you if you test it out.

  2. Everyone please welcome the newest addition to our HelioHost staff, KazVee! A question that we get a lot is how to get promoted to admin. You need to do exactly what KazVee did by helping out on the forums and Discord with simple questions that don't require admin access. Since she continued helping out we took notice and offered to give her access to the admin tools so she can help out even more. Since we switched to Plesk control panel in 2021 a lot of our documentation on the wiki became extremely out of date. KazVee took it upon herself to completely overhaul and update our documentation which benefits all of our users. We've been asking our users to help out with the wiki for years, and KazVee was the one who finally stepped up and volunteered to take care of it. Here at HelioHost we all started as regular users helping out like KazVee, and eventually got promoted.

  3. Even after opening free signups twice per day, instead of once per day like the last 19 years, free accounts are still filling consistently in only a few seconds in both time slots. Since the stability of Johnny is still doing great so we're going to increase the number of accounts we give away each day. As long as the uptime and speed of Johnny stays good we'll continue trying to give away as many accounts as we can support each day.

  4. Free signups on Johnny now reset every 12 hours at midnight UTC and noon UTC. For the last 8 years we've been offering new free signups starting at midnight UTC and staying open as long as we can, but also not allowing too many accounts to keep the uptime high. This works great for most of the world. For instance, signups reset at 4pm to 8pm in the US, 10pm in Brazil, 12am in England, 1am in France, 1am in Germany, 2pm in Hawaii, 7pm in Peru, 1pm in New Zealand, 8am to 11am in Australia, 9am in Japan, 8am in China, 5:30am in India, etc. However, between India and Germany not many people are awake when signups open. We get a lot of complaints from people living in those areas, and our responses have always been, "I had to stay up until 2am three nights in a row to get my account", or "I had to stay up until 3am to get my account", or "You could just donate $1 and get an account whenever", or "You're lucky because there wasn't even an option to donate back in the day when I got my account". Johnny has been really stable the last year since we started offering free signups again, and we feel like we can increase the number of new accounts that we give out each day. Instead of increasing the number of accounts available at midnight UTC we instead decided to offer signups twice per day to help out those people who don't want to set an alarm and wake up at 4am just to get a free hosting account. Let us know what you think of this change.

  6. Each user can now open a maximum of 10 connections to MariaDB on Johnny and Tommy. Back in 2021 and earlier we had a limit of 3 connections on Johnny and 6 connections on Tommy. Tons of people would write bad code that doesn't ever close database connections and then they would hit the limit and complain to us about the errors. The forum and Discord were full of messages like, "The reason you can't open any new connections is because you already have 6 open connections that have all been sleeping for hours without even doing anything." When we switched to Plesk we decided to do an experiment and leave the connections unlimited to see if people could be responsible and not abuse our generosity. It worked well for 3 years, but in the last 2 weeks one person on Tommy and three people on Johnny have (probably unintentionally) launched a denial of service attack on our MariaDB databases causing hours of downtime for thousands of other users. So, the time has come to enforce a limit again. A few bad people always ruin the fun for everyone else.

  12. If you want a VPS, you can simply purchase it through the normal sign-up process. https://heliohost.org/vps/ Having a shared hosting account does not impact the ability to purchase a VPS. Also, unlike the shared hosting, you can have more than one VPS too if needed.

  13. Hi!, I'm a newbie at the moment, and I'm amazed at how you provide this high quality service. I think users should choose to use database-less software as often as possible. Congratulations!

We don't read the section you posted this in regularly. For things needing admin attention, customer service or questions will get you a faster response. Moved.

  16. Your storage space has been increased to 3000 MB for the $10.69 worth of LTC you donated, and your account has been activated so you should be able to login again. Thanks for the donation. Let us know if you need help with anything else.

  17. Krydos can verify this for you and add the space (I don't have access to check crypto donations). Escalating.

  18. Space increases are not free and are only available to donors who've donated $5 or more ($6 or more for Tommy users, as the first $1 gives you the Tommy account). To increase space, please provide a transaction number for a donation of $5 or more. Each $5 donated entitles you to 1000MB extra space, with a max of 6000MB for any one person on the shared hosting. (Space beyond 6000MB can be obtained by purchasing a VPS).

  20. Does it work now? As an added bonus, if you make changes to your Flask app try editing flask.wsgi and see if it loads the changes immediately rather than waiting for an Apache restart. You can just add a blank line or remove a blank line or something and it should restart your Flask app. Let us know if reloading the Flask app works too.

  22. You're suspended for high load...again. This is your second time for this issue, and it looks like nothing has been done to solve it, considering both suspensions are for load resulting from running a node proxy (these are too heavy to run here and nearly always result in a suspension). What do you plan to do to make sure this never happens again?

  27. For anyone else who reads this, each 1 person can have 1 account total, regardless of how many email addresses you create. And each 1 account can have up to 10 websites for free. You don't need to create 2 accounts to have 2 websites, and the only thing you're going to accomplish by creating 2 accounts is getting both suspended. Our terms of service are really easy to understand. You don't even need to consult with a lawyer. The reason we limit people to 1 account per person is because we're a non-profit free hosting provider so the only money we get is from donations and advertising revenue. We turn away hundreds of people each day who would love to have 1 free account, so we don't think it's fair for 1 person to have more than 1 account when there are so many people who aren't able to even have a single account. If we had the servers, and money, and resources of Google or Amazon or something, we would allow everyone to create as many accounts as they wanted to, but we don't have infinite money and we don't have infinite servers, so we have to try to be as fair as possible to the few people we can provide free hosting to.
    1 point
  28. If you don't understand the above, having 2 email addresses does not make you 2 people. By one per person, we mean one account per human being.
    1 point
  29. You need to work on your reading comprehension. We've already answered that. Here's another example. The terms of service say And you somehow interpret that to mean that since you have 2 email addresses you count as 2 people?

  30. You were just told the reason. It is against the ToS to have more than one account. Which one do you want to keep?

  35. I spoke with Krydos on this, he confirmed this issue does not look to be on our end, but rather an issue with DNS propagation of the name server settings from in.eu.org. He was able to show that some servers around the world are reporting cloudns as the DNS provider, which is obviously incorrect. You'll need to contact the admins who handle in.eu.org for assistance with this issue (note that in.eu.org has a different admin from eu.org).

  36. I'll let Krydos take a look at this as I don't see anything wrong on our end. Zone files look fine, check fine, and resolve when queried directly. He's the expert on these name servers though. I did correct missing A records for your subdomains on Cody (my fault as when I restored this for you I didn't know the DNS servers don't actually talk to each other...), but that didn't resolve the fact the root domain itself still won't resolve. As for this morning (on a different computer), I get this. The major DNS providers just return nothing at all for your domain. At work last week they returned an NXDOMAIN. C:\Users\Owner>nslookup sgnetworks.in.eu.org ns1.heliohost.org Server: UnKnown Address: 2001:470:1:1ee::3 Name: sgnetworks.in.eu.org Address: 65.19.141.67 C:\Users\Owner>nslookup sgnetworks.in.eu.org ns2.heliohost.org Server: UnKnown Address: 2001:470:1:1ee::2 Name: sgnetworks.in.eu.org Address: 65.19.141.67 C:\Users\Owner>nslookup sgnetworks.in.eu.org 1.1.1.1 Server: one.one.one.one Address: 1.1.1.1 Name: sgnetworks.in.eu.org C:\Users\Owner>nslookup sgnetworks.in.eu.org 8.8.8.8 Server: dns.google Address: 8.8.8.8 Name: sgnetworks.in.eu.org

  37. To use CF, you just add the domain in CF, it will try to copy the needed records. If that succeeds, you can just change the name servers at your registrar to what they give you and it will work. If you want to configure manually in cloudflare, you just set the A and AAAA records for the base domain to the IPs shown in Plesk, and create a CNAME for www that’s pointed to your domain. If you need email to work, there’s additional records needed as well (an MX, and 2 TXT records for SPF and DKIM).

  38. Unsuspended. It may take a few minutes to work. To clarify the policy for others who may read this, users are allowed one Plesk account total , not one account per server. Users cannot have an account on both Plesk servers at the same time. Also, the multiple account policy does not apply to VPSes.

  39. Password resets are now available without admin assistance through the website at https://heliohost.org/reset/ If you forget the password for your Johnny, Tommy, or VPS account this site should allow you to set a new password after verifying your email address. For the last few years any password reset had to be emailed manually by an admin, which was a lot of work for us, and a hassle for our users. Let us know if you run into any errors while resetting your password.

  40. We discussed this on Discord, but the database doesn't exist right now so remote access cannot be enabled, plus I also explained that PostgreSQL database name and PosgreSQL username can't be the same like they can on MariaDB/MySQL.
